My truck isn't my truck and isn't governed but I run it like how I would run it if it were mine and I was paying the fuel bill. I keep my idle time to a minimum. I keep my speeds between 68-73mph depending on weight and the direction of the wind. If I have a good tailwind and a light load, I'll run 75 mph where legal.

Not saying it's not possible. What I AM saying is that using such raw numbers as in ATs example as a hard and fast rule is not practical. There are variables that affect you whether you go 58 or 75. And as e-logs gain a toehold, these numbers will be further affected.

I started with Schneider as well..... and as a starter company you would be hard pressed to do better, and could easily do worse. They're a no nonsense carrier, with an eye constantly on safety.

The governed speed should not be an issue, because a good deal of your loads will have appointment times for delivery, and I never had to worry about whether or not I would make it to the receiver on time. No sense in burning up the road when you don't need to. Their dispatchers are well aware of the governed speed and will assign your work assignments accordingly.

They're a good, solid place for a newbie to become introduced to the world of trucking...... Having said that, most choose to move on after they've put in a couple of years, although I did meet several drivers that had been with them in excess of 10 years.

AND, keep in mind, that most people who enter this profession, really have no idea what it is really like to be out here day after day...... and as a consequence, most people throw in the towel long before they get a couple of years under their belt....... Not trying to discourage you, but you should be aware that most people are not cut out for driving professionally.

Best of luck....... And cuttin' your teeth as a "pumpkin driver" ain't all that bad.

In my opinion it is, I started with a different company and I was not impressed, I went through training with Schneider and I was very impressed with their safety requirements and their training program. I know SNI catches a lot of flack from other truckers but it is my personal experience that they really do push safety.

And about 10 minutes after they're mandated someone will have figured out how to cheat them. And the O/O will carry two E-Logs. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction!"

Does anyone know if and when they sell their used trucks if they turn off the governed speed?

They must because I've been passed by ex-SN orange specials doing at least 75 mph.

It is just a computer setting you can have any shop change after purchase. However if you leave the same transmission and gears in place kiss any shot at fuel mileage goodbye if you try and run them consistently higher than spec'ed. You can set it as high as the rev limit will give you but driving around with their set up at 75 mph is going to break your pocket in short order.

No I have no intentions of going faster, its I just dont care to know that there is a limiter on it. If I did, I would probably set it to 75 (if I were to have it at all after purchase).
