    Well did it...... now own a 2970 but I need a mtg bracket with the screws....anybody? ( and I promise, monitor only till I get my tech license )

    And a question....... when you turn radio off then on.... radio loses memory of channel....seller said there is a battery on board that powers memory and it's bad........ fact or fiction?

    if you get error message .turn on & off real fast .its due to the micro processor on the electrical surge .these radios dont like any kind of surge flucutation .
    i have a 2950 .there is nothing like spliting chanels to talk to others .
    never heard of an in radio battery .its a micro processor .

    i have mine turned into where i can talk cb mode .with a sweet sixteen behind it .
    ham is a nice feature to have on the rd ,gets real interesting .

    what generation radio is it

    the only difference between 2970 & 2950 is the 2970 has a built in power pack

    no, no error msg. If i'm on say 19 and turn it off then back on it don't remember, it goes to like 3300 or 2600. Mine is fixed for cb too. Got the old FM like my Connex and "A" channels like the old Midland etc.

    Bought it used and it's been abused. Tech ripped the power connector out and ran two heavy duty cables through the opening, buttons are yellow and swr doesn't work but came with a RK 56

    It sounds like a 1st generation 2970.There should be a soldered in "coin" type battery behind the VFO display.If I remember right, it is a 3 volt battery.Later versions of the 2970 used a capacitor to hold memory.

    YEP a 2033 type battery is very widely used in many radios.....

    More than just this. Only one final to drive the amplifier. The 2950 has two finals. The battery is a 3.3 volt lithium with solder tabs and the piezo beeper is double sticky mounted to the back of the battery. I have plenty if you cannot find one. Some mount a holder with wires to the board so they can plug a new one in. Not really needed if you always remember to turn it off before you remove power. Those who unplug the power cord while the radio is still on soon learn their battery does not last long.

    There is, I poped the bottom off and it's there but I'm not going after it. I'll go get another and have a tech put it in.

    1st gen is right..... I looked at some internet photos of later boards and mine looks nothing like it. No signal shielding etc.

    Any way to date the radio by s/n? (409227 )

    Oh sheet! More problems...... radio refuses commands from the buttons and sometimes the display lites up with everything on it like busy,tx,prog etc. Is there a way to completely reset the radio ?

    How about a quick briefing on how to move around in the channels? Or is the dead batt in the memory messing with it??
