Truck drivers are creatures of habit. Since going to Canada is different than typical US run, they exaggerate the difficulty. If you understand you have to get your paperwork and procedures as the Canadians like it there is nothing to worry about. I'd rather be in rush hour Montreal traffic than Atlanta, San Fran, or DC. It's not even close as far as I'm concerned. There just aren't nearly as many truck stops as we take for granted in the US.
It's like going to NYC, even if they haven't done it, they've heard the most dramatic stories, assume that's the best-case scenario and avoid it.
Why don't you want to go to Canada?

Can you elaborate on this...my understanding is that the HoS rules are fairly similar, except we can drive longer. I thought OTR guys would appreciate the extra time?

American Trucker -
You have a choice of two different 'cycles': 7 day 70 hr 36 hr reset or 14 day 120 hr 72 hour reset.
As for daily limits, 14 hours of on duty of which 13 can be driving.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Never wanted to go there...

You ever been past your county line?
-
Sorry bud, you lose. But I've hauled more than one load of spuds (whole and/or processed) into the USA, where they are re-bagged and marked as Product of Idaho.

WOW! Really?! I make a simple comment and you come at me like a smart*** yes I've crossed my COUNTY line, and the STATE line, and lines to 37 OTHER STATES. I have almost 200,000 miles behind me. Canada is a place I've never wanted to go and.....I NEVER will. There's a few countries I'd like to see but Canada isn't 1 of them. Since you came off so smart ill even add, I'd take a load to Mexico before I went to Canada!

You might be surprised but CANADA is Like TOTALLY just like the Great USA, theys all gotz paved roads , inside plumbin , lectric lites and Internet and yes GPS work there as well.
They are our BIGGEST cross border tradiing partner and without them a lot of Truckers would not have work ( both sides of the border )
I would rather go to CANADA and get a snow ball thrown at me then MEXICO and get my throat slashed.tinytim, kw9's rock, scottied67 and 2 others Thank this.
