Officially got hired at Schneider today!

So this week has been week #1 of the new orientation/training layout at Schneider. Though there have been a few kinks to work out here and there, it seems that all the instructors are liking the new system better than how it previously worked.

In case any of you are interested in coming on to SNI, here's basically what you can expect from training. A detailed blog of every day is on my blog at http://metzgerovertheroad.wordpress.com/

Today I got "officially hired" at SNI (have been training in Green Bay this week) and got my ComData card and everything, so definitely was a good day.

Basically the way training works now is that training starts on Tuesday. Tuesday-Saturday is a combination of classroom work, as well as working in groups of 2-3 with an instructor going over everything from pre-trip to maneuvering, backing, shifting, etc. Also some pretty helpful simulator sessions, too (i.e. Front tire blowout).

Right after the first week, you go out with a TE (Training engineer) for one week (Sunday to Sunday). After that, you will come right back to the operating center you started out in for a few more days of classroom work (more detailed instruction on the electronics used, how to deal with customers, etc.) Then you take a quality skills test, and that's it.

SNI seems to be an extremely reputable company, and have more than exceeded my expectations thus far. Any new drivers who are looking for a good company to work for, SNI seems to be a good choice for sure.

Do you have any "tanker" guys there in your orientation.

Im about 98% pre-hired for the tanker division and was given choice of GB or Coroapolis PA. I went with PA since its way closer to my house.

Just curious if they split up the orientation between bulk and freight or keep everyone together.

Yeah, there are a few guys here that are in the bulk division... You will go through training with everyone else, and there will be some additional bulk division training at the end of training just for you. All the stuff for the first few weeks is pretty general stuff that applies to pretty much everyone. However, week #2 when you go out with a TE, you will most likely get assigned to a driver who is in the bulk division.

Glad to hear that you find it helpful. SNI is an awesome company to work for (so far) and they definitely treat you like a real human being. Keep us posted on what you decide to do, and how it all works out for you.

    Good luck!

    Very informative...thank you

This is by far the top choice I have once I have completed my CDL training. I've even been in contact with Schneider, but they want me to complete school first. I can understand...first school...then find a job...but I'll have my eye open during class.

Schneider is definitely a good choice. Keep your eyes open and keep an open mind and training will be a breeze. Good luck.

That and patience. The company I got laid off from 2 weeks ago...the workers would complain if you gave them a $100 bill...I was the only one that never did that, and they got rid of me? Their loss, my gain...even if I make $35k my first year I break even.

My point is...this is the most positive thing I've heard of all the "mega-carriers"...yeah people ##### and complain, we all do it...but it gets old (if not entertaining) ...just have to take it like a grain of sand, and brush it off...move on and keep humpin.

I can't wait to start school and being busy again. In my opinion, my career of busting my ##### off starts Monday :biggrin_1square7:
