After getting all of my paperwork in order all that left was to knocHerut the HazMat test and get my new passport to fun...or CDL.
The test seemed easy. Probably had something to do with studying the last two days.
After an $81 donation the DOL and a new mug shot there is nothing left to do but to hop a flight to SpringMo!
Be seeing some of y'all soon.

Thanks Kingsson.
This first thing I did was escalate the issue. I got a hold of a guy named John Hancock who, I believe, the recruiters report up to. When I explained I had a 35 year work history (in a different industry altogether) and had not been unemployed since I was 15 years old and the fact that Prime was 1 of only 3 companies I wanted to work for he agreed to review my app.
I was honest and forthright about where and who I wanted to work for. Despite being unemployed for 18 months I wasn't going swim my way up through the bottom feeders that consume so many folks. I make it clear that I had done my research and Prime was the place for me. I think that fact that I had a plan and wasn't just looking to get hired on just anywhere helped make a difference. I was also already enrolled in a CDL school and driving a friends truck when it was available to gain experience even though I wasn't being paid.
After some back and forth on what I had been doing with my 'free time' my app was ultimately approved by a regional manager. I don't who he/she was other than the title.
So, is this a dumb policy on its face? Maybe. I understand the philosophy behind the rule. But, if your son is serious about working for Prime, or anywhere with a similar policy, I suggest that he communicate the reason(s) why he would add value to Prime. If he can do that, based on his talents and desire, Prime would be foolish to ignore another valuable asset like your son. -
They (pretty much any company, not just Prime) have their pick of driver prospects to choose from these days, given how many folks are out of work and looking to change careers. The spotty/no job history rule is probably an easy way to screen out potentially undesirable/flaky applicants -- low hanging fruit. That said, it's a rule of thumb bound to have exceptions.
Anything one can do to stand out above the applicant crowd in a positive way is a good idea.
Kingsson: Garciamag's advice is pretty sound. Selling yourself is key to any interview and important to anyone's job seeker skill set. They may still say no, but your son will get some key practice in there for the next company he approaches. -
Ready to hit the road.
Hopefully all my research will pay off in that I will only have packed what I needed. Kid not included.
Bummer, can't get the pic to upload.....Last edited: Feb 11, 2012

Thanks ORD. Thanks to you and some of the other regular posters I have followed that have help frame a clear picture of the madness I have voluntarily subjected myself to!
- I don't expect it to be easy but worth it.
- I won't get rich in money but expect I'll respect myself every morning (or afternoon) when I wake up ready to turn those wheels.
- I won't worry about letting it get to me since I just spent the last 18 months wondering why I can't find a job in a field that is supposed to be growing.
So, feel free to offer guidance, tips and sharing your wisdom. It is appreciated.Quest4ADV Thanks this. -
Relax. But NEVER become so comfortable that you forget what youre driving. Youre controlling an 80,000 pound weapon of mass destruction. Always pay attention to whats goin on around you, but dont let a single thing keep youre focus. Watch out for morons on the road.... Theyre everywhere
