My first mountain my first week of my first trucking job was on I-26 east of Chattanooga, TN. Don't ask me names but I seen what run off ramps were all about when we got to the second one and the driver missed the ramp and crashed In between the ramp and mountain and caught fire. By the time we reached it nothing but the charred frame remained. My codriver and I looked at each simultaneously and said the exact same thing, "this is no joke". At the end of the day he asked me, well what did you learn today, I said, " trucking school was right, you let all the trucks on the highway and run all the 4-wheelers over....LOL. What a day I won't forget.
First mountain that scared me, was in, where else, in Colorado at the top in Vale where it practically snows year round. Had two hours left into my driving time and decided that I was too tired and had no patience to descend so I parked on the side until my co-driver was out of the sleeper after doing his ten. He got pissed at me and said "you could be fired if you worked for a big company". I said, "So what if they fire me for that at least I can say I didn't tear anything up. -
I was fresh out trucking school by just a few days when I went to California. Tackled Grapevine, El Cajun, Donner in my first few days.

Just finished 5 weeks out. First time on my own. Drove all over I 90, I 15, through Montana, Colorado New Mexico, Washington, Wyoming and Oregon. The worst was coming down I 84 in Oregon, Cabbage Pass I think it was. Too anxious to really check out the road signs other than the one saying my max speed coming down hill was 28 mph...
