May Trucking isn't helping show their good side at all. My husband just recently returned from Brooks, OR where he was to test and do orientation. They sent him a bus ticket from California to Or that took him 16 hrs . Let me just say that my husband is disabled and they were aware of this before they approved him for employment. In the meantime, my husband gets to their facility, nestles in a hotel, and reports to them for his drive test, his physical, and his drug screening. IN THAT ORDER. The first day of all the testing seemed to go smoothly. He took his drive test and the trainer told him good job, lets get you over to the dr. for your physical. He passed his physical and was then sent to do his UA. The next day he was in orientation and the same guy that tested his driving tells him that his disablility is a safety issue and they will not be offering him a position with their company. Now mind you, my husband calls me very irritated, and in a not so pleasant mood, to tell me this. Being the person that I am I contacted May trucking to find out what the issue is, according to the recruiter that they transfered me to , my husband failed his drive test. Now, if that was the case, logically, he should have been sent home immediately following his drive test, not ushered to the dr. only to be given the go ahead to drive with his green card and a green light from D.O.T. My husband quit his job here to go work for them, just to get sent back home and now looking for a new job. He has limited experience as his only jobs with his CDL have been local seasonal jobs and he is wanting is OTR experience.

I'm going through the application process for May now. I'm already getting discouraged. The only reason I went with them is they have several 379 petes in the fleet plus I live in Salem. seemed to be the thing to do. I'm going to have to give this choice much more consideration. Seeing the type of person you are, I'm sure you will follow up sounds like discrimination of sorts, seems you were lied to, I agree if not passing the road test was really the reason then why the dr. makes no sense. you go get them girl. good luck to you.:biggrin_25513:

Debi, don't get pissed off or think I'm trying to be a ######## here. I'm not trying to be. However, I must take issue with this post. I ask you: Why in the hell would you want to work for a company simply because they have pretty Pete 379s? Were you born yesterday? There's a LOT more to consider when choosing a company to work for.

If I had a company, I could buy a fleet of long-nosed, chrome-covered caddies of trucks, and pay 10 cents per mile. I bet most of my trucks would be running 24/7/365. Why? Because there are plenty of people out there who think that if a company has fancy Petes, that company is a great outfit. A fancy rig means very little. It definitely doesn't mean the company is worth working for. Usually the opposite it true, meaning you should stay away from companies that will assign drivers ungoverned 379s. If a company's 379s are governed, I'd still think twice about working there.

Also, consider this: Companies that have a "few" 379s sprinkled through their fleets will use those trucks to play drivers against each other and to 'extort' certain behavior from drivers, behavior that is usually not in the best interest of those drivers. Usually this will involve breaking the law somehow. I would never work for a company that rewards drivers for bending or even breaking the law for the company in any fashion, and that includes giving me a 379 as my reward. No thanks.

As of yesterday, my husband ventured a couple towns over and got a job with another trucking company. He will driving the I-5 corridor which he really enjoys. However, him getting this job only proved that it was not the driver test that kept him from the job with May trucking. We have spoken with a lawyer and have found out that yes we do have a case and if this lawyer is hungry enough, May trucking will be hearing from her. My husband has been disabled his entire life and up until three days ago, never has my husband FELT disabled. Just goes to show that some people are extremely shallow and would rather discriminate than look at the whole picture. My husband is a good driver and I don't suggest ANYONE go to May trucking. There are better companies out there that won't be judgmental on how a person looks.

Honestly, I don't even want anything from them other than for them to know that there IS people out there that are disabled that will NOT allow any company to discriminate against them. Other than that, they can choke on the money, and the materialistic things they have. But, I do wanna thank you for the kind words. :biggrin_25517:

Well like any other trucking company they LIE!!!!! to get you in the door!!!
you will find with may if you do not play by there rules you will do allot of waiting for a load the fast you get things done the longer you will wait for a reload!!!
they like you to driver slow that is how they route you for time! so in the long run all you will ever get for miles is about 2000 to 2500 a week!!!!!
like Gorden trucking on top of which you will call in each morning on the qualcom and give them the hours you worked the day before and they had better match the logs you sent in with your trip pak in other words you send in your logs twice a week but every day!!!!!
now if you call you DM all you will get from him or her is WE ARE WORKING ON IT OR YES WE KNOW!!!!! that just so you know is nothing will not change!!!!! so if you like games and do not want to run very many miles May and Gorden are the companies you want to work for!!!!!

I have been working for May trucking for a little over 5 months and I can tell you that indeed you were lied to.

They fired my recruiter after she lied to drivers also and my dm was fired as well, they claim for missing work. But others have told me it was a failed UA.

If your husband failed the drive test they would of told him then and probably would have had him go out with a trainer for a couple of days and brush up. There is another driver on here who just hired with May and failed the drive test 2 times before passing it and he was not sent packing.

I think the truth is that since May is self insured someone made the decision that he was not worth the risk.

Personally I think they did him a favor, this company has been nothing but average since I started working here and below average in the area of driver support and maintenance.

I will however say that NO driver should think that when a OTR company says come on down to orientation, that you should consider that a promise of employment. Take a leave of absence if you can from your current employer but never think you are hired at a OTR co until you pu your first load.

Glad your husband found a job, and I wish him good luck.
