I went to change my license as I moved to a different county and found I had to fill out and fax a Driver Self-Certification form along with a copy of my medical to the Division of Driver Licensing before they could issue me a new CDL, this process takes 48hrs in KY...
So if you plan on doing this on your hometime, make sure you have enough time as you can't just walk in and have it done the same day...At least here in KY you can't, your state may vary on the time....Thankfully I'm home for 9 days and decided to do it today so I can go in on Thursday and get my new license...
One thing I found 'concerning' was that she said once she entered the info in the computer, if I got pulled over, the LEO would see the new address but I wouldn't have a new license to match it...She gave me the standard state worker line of 'it'll be fine, they're aware of this process' which didn't alleviate all my concerns...I'm just glad I don't have to drive until I get it...
I would call your local DMV and see how it works in your particular state if you plan on or need to renew or change address soon...
Just a heads up...Drive safe!!!!

I just read about it here >> http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/cdl/cdl-general-info.aspx
It mentione "variations"? but does not indicate what that might be?? Oh well I'm due this year so I guess I'll find out -
We got "notified" by NCDOT late last year, all we have to do is make a copy of both and send in to be put in the data base

Renewed my license last week and did it right at the counter after I showed them my med card.

And what state is "Sometimes here, sometimes there.."? (Edit, in a second look of your post I see it's KY)
In my state (Missouri) I happened to call on the deadline date to the Licence Bureau in Jefferson City. The "customer service" operator read something to me, to the effect that there is no data base in place, and that Missouri is out of federal compliance, but due to budget shortfalls, they don't have the funds to put this program into place.
So I called my state representative. I spoke to his aide and was told that the legislation to assure these funds to even hire the staff to build the data base to collect the medical certificate information was still pending. My suggestion to her was to please let us render our medical information electronically, as by fax, email or even snail mail. I pressed the fact that many of us are away from home for weeks or months at a time and that if we had that option, it would be a huge help. From what I heard from other states, CDL holders were being suspended for being out of compliance.
She called me back a in less than week later. My representative was receptive of my concerns, and would take it back to the committee he chairs which has juice in all the necessary legislation.
In conclusion, in Missouri, nothing happening here, yet. They will let us know in the media and by mail.Last edited: Feb 21, 2012
