I feel like I had a blonde moment or something. LA is Louisiana not Los Angeles haha that just goes to show much I've forgotten since I was out there. Yea LA is not a bad drive but L.A. is a different story.

I was disappointed to see you tell others that they won't make any money at Prime... And tell everyone you won't be suckered by Prime again.
Now here you are!
Congratulations on swallowing your pride and coming back to Prime!skellr Thanks this. -
No I was thinking of cali too and how much I hated driving thru there. I mean some of scenery was nice I guess and the climate was good. But the highway lanes are narrow and cops pull you over for no apparant reason. Luckily it never happened to me but a lot of other truckers out there it did.

I turned in an app last Thursday. Haven't heard back yet, but did find out they did asign me a recruiter. I don't start school until the end of March and have a few other applications out. Did receive a pre hire letter from one carrier today. Hoping to speak to Prmes recruiter in the next day or two.

ok another question for lease drivers, recruiter hasnt gotten back to me again yet to see the lease to review it but I was tols by a company driver that refused to lease after reading the contract mainly due to the cost of the truck and that he saw so many lease ops broke all the time, and a few things in the lease disturbed him like you get charged extra for going over a certain amount of miles in a week like 3000 he thought, anyways he was really against the whole leasing thing, just throwing a hook out there to see what kind of restrictions you have come across on the lease that could wind up costing instead of earning

Trucks ain't cheap...
You have to have a plan, know how to run a business, drive a truck economically, timing is everything, and a good dose of luck doesn't hurt! Most folks don't understand that running a business does require them to actually run it - ask those same broke lease ops if they ever look at their settlements let alone do their own bookeeping, remember how many advances they took in a week, or can even balance their bank accounts.
Many company guys can't make the switch... its not about miles. Its about gross revenue, minimizing costs - and driving the fewest miles possible to maximize your revenue.
"A man needs to know his limitations" - Dirty Harry.
Its a very straight-forward lease. The mileage fee is there to offset the loss of value of the tractor against excessive wear and tear. Have you ever leased a car? Same principle as the mileage limitations there.
The lease payment includes your bobtail and liability insurance costs - many places list that out separately on a settlement. Its also a payment against a three-year note rather than a five-year note that is common at other carriers... therefore higher payments.
My fixed costs (including health, occupational accident and dental insurance) truck payment, tags, permits and APU fee is $1072.04 per week. The truck payment decreases each year of the lease. Now this will vary depending on the price of the truck - the new 2010-engines, and stuff like the "KW" thingy on the front cost more.Vegas Reaper and BigCheese Thank this.
