Working at Matlack, we would spot MT tankers at power sub stations that had been struck by lightening. The Transformer Oil [non PCB] is expensive and the power companies have process units that restore the dielectric properties. they pump the transformer out into the tanks, fix the unit and process the oil back into the transformer.

I was sent w/ a trainee bobtail to the Nuke plant in Salem, NJ [actually Hancocks Bridge but Salem is the larger spec on the map] to get a spotted tank.

It was outside the perimeter fence BUT inorder to check in we had to enter the security entrance to the plant. took us around two hours just to get permission to take the tank home...in the meantime the two of us are sitting there watching all the people come and go thru all the metal dectors and radiation decetectors.

It is time I will never get back!

I've hauled the guts of those transformers before. Sawzall around the case after pumping out the oil, pull the top, and pull out the transformer. I was worried about the oil, but the crew said it would condition my wood deck.:biggrin_2554: Everything gets recycled.

No one here is naming where we were or what we hauled for the most part. Generically describing a situation is surely not a security risk. Those of us that haul this type of freight generally have DoD or DOE clearances. Which means our backgrounds have been checked and we have not been deemed as a security risk. This is one reason you will not normally hear any of these guys or gals hauling this stuff ratchet jawing on the cb! We take what we haul seriously and do our best to protect our freight from any potential terrorist plots.

    A question.

What idiot would use a rifle to watch a driver in a truck? Wouldn't that situation just scream for a pistol, instead? Some training that guard had, methinks.

She had a shiny revolver as well. I found it odd to have a full blown Call of Duty AR and a revolver, but that's what the rest of them had too. Technically, a 16" AR is a carbine, not a rifle. Plus, with a wide Western Star cab, she could have shouldered it without poking me in the eye and still had to aim. Try THAT in a non-plastic KW or Pete. I had to get out of the truck to unstrap, so technically she might have to make that 50' shot.
