Have you met Bobby yet? he's the 90 yr old guy with 3" thick glasses... lol Funny guy but almost all of his "advice" and "tips" and whatever else comes out of his mouth is so outdated its best just to nod and then forget whatever he said lol.
here's my thread SammyCat was talking about:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ivers/131546-proper-pre-trip-for-newbies.html
Your right you better off in the winter. When i went to school when i was 18 i went in March...in NC....ya....it sucked! 30* in the morning and 75* by noon lol. 2nd time around when i went to CTDTS i was there in July/Aug/Sep and those POS cabovers dont have any of the AC stuff in them anymore lol
Oh and if Sinclair (tall skinny black guy, shaved head) is still the Head Instructor, when/if he does the "truck stop safety class" just ignore all the stupidty that comes out of his mouth. He told us "when i pull in i pull the curtians and dont get out, its not safe to be walking around truck stops"
And if mario is still there, like 5' 5" mexican guy, looks like a little pimp, Tell him you wanna see his backing skills, he ran a yard dog for like 2 years, guy can backblind side all the way around the building in reverse high with his foot to the foor without ever letting off and sink it in between two trucks without even thinking about it, its fun to watch, he gets all ####y like he's all that lol cool guy though
oh the big guy is cool too....i cant remember his name off the top of my head itll come to me though.
American Truckersammycat Thanks this. -
i love that guy. Just stop his little bs thing and say, "sir i think you mean WERNER....you work for WERNER sir!" He cant even say werner right lol
American Truckerflyingmusician Thanks this. -
He he he, yea. Tomorrow the trainer will begin to teach us a good way to do PTI. The other guy will be testing out tomorrow.
Werner will be there next week Wednesday, guess I'd better wear some boots that day. -
read my Pre-trip thread, then listen to there "right way" to do it tomorrow, you'll have a hard time not laughing.
American Trucker -
Thanks for the link. I'll read it over the weekend when I've got more room for stuff in my head.
Oh yea, it's not been fun standing outside but much better when it's cooler than when it's hotter. I don't like heat.
I think Sinclair is still there. (It's a bald black guy, just not so skinny.) He talked to us today about the drug testing. He told us it's not worth getting busted for drugs. (and that he still drinks but won't smoke anymore) He's a cool guy. I hope he does give us that talk if it's the same guy. Sounds like it'd be fun.
Mario is there. He's our PTI trainer. I was talking with this morning. He is a cool guy. I'll have to remember to ask him about the backing. That would be cool to see. Might have to get video of it.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
tell mario i said hi, i'm sure he'll rememeber me (better anyway, or i might just have to come down there)
Next time im in town i think i'll swing by and show off my Peter(bilt)
American Trucker -
You should. We had some goofball stop by from TMC to show off his Freightliner.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
'Nother decent drive down to the school.
Wound up with Marvin for the PTI so it wasn't as amusing because he had a student doing it.
Heard from the Swift guy today, he had a lot of confidence that some students would be going to one company first them coming to him.
Then we watched a elongated commercial for CAT Scales.
The most exciting part about today was: coupling and uncoupling. (Which also marks the first time I've driven something with a clutch.) Was fun watching everyone try to follow the steps in the right order and get it right. Overall I didn't do too bad for my first try and got a lil better on my second. We're going to be doing it again tomorrow, hope my legs can handle it.
After that it's 3 days off and we'll begin backing in the lot while also studying up so we can get our permits by the end of the week. -
Sounds good so far Wulf!!
I'm glad AT stopped by and linked his PTI- he has some much good informationbiggrin_2558
*don't go getting a big head or nothing AT!!*
Take those recruiter like you said- used car salesman! They will have you believing you will be making 0.75 cpm and home every day and only have to work 2 days a week all D/H and no backing!!!!!!!
Take some time on here Wulf and check out the good/bad companies sections. I know your decision will come down to terminals close to you and what fits you but from all I have read on here-some want lots of time training after school like Swift with something like 200 hrs behind the wheel to a Watkins/Shepard (where AT started) where basically you get tested-if you pass you have a few days orientation and off you go -alone!!!
