Look into flatbedding. There are TONS of fb companies that hire out of oh and will get you home every weekend....its not every night but good money and weekends for a year or two wont be that bad.

excel hires yard jockeys for around $14.50 /hr around my area they work 4 12's then off 3...for what its worth

 

I dont know your whole situation but Id finish school and try to find something local I would think there are many oppertunities around Col...ever think about garbage trucks? I worked for BFI many years ago it was a great job If they had not of lost the city contract in my hometown I may still have been there...septic / grease trucks, rendering, triaxle dump , roll off,?I know werner runs many day cabs out of the budweiser plant in Col.theres a large garbage hauler at the end of airport parkway rd.( cant remember there name)...I think there are many oppertunities in your area for local work..

Dude, anything new is a challenge. Yes it's hard being away, Just to share my situation so you understand I get it. My baby daughter is 7, she came to me late in life, (41 when she was born) and momma was sick after giving birth. I took care of molly for her first 6 months as an infant and the bond has been tight ever since. She is daddys girl thru and thru. Our son has behaivour problums( pretty severe) (I adopted wifes kids ) and my wife has health problums. All very good reasons for not leaving my family and going out on the road. But, I needed to make a better living than I was when my wife could no longer work. This is not a post to make anybody think that my situation is any better or worse or make myself out to be some super guy. I just want to point out that you can make any situation work if you NEED and WANT to. Yes it completely sucks to leave them behind every week, but I (and they) also know this is the way that WE have chosen to improve our lives, and so far it's working. You say your going to finish school, good, but also remember that not at least trying to make driving work for your family is the same as quiting before you even start. Maybe in a year you will decide that it does not work after all, but at least you will decide to quit because you know, not because you think. There are good, even great jobs in this industry, but you won't find that out without at least giving it a fair shot. Read the positive post, read the stuff that tells you how to make this work, not just the sour grapes from drivers who bought into the idea that this job is all money and adventure with out having to face adversity and a bit of hard work and sacrifice. In one year I have almost doubled my income, and I'm still home every weekend. Just some food for thought.

That's what I do. I drive a septic/grease truck. I'm making the same amount(if not a little more) that I was making working a "9-5" type job and I have no work stress now. My biggest worry is when it rains alot and I have to pull onto grassy areas to pump. And I haven't been otr at all
