After another dispointing year and painfully slow winter I decided to start looking around for some different ways to make a living. Stumbled across a delivery job for a small local steel company and today had my second interview and was offered the job and decided to take it. The company has been in business for 80+yrs and has never had to lay anyone off for lack of work.
I figured it out and last year I averaged working 63hrs per month and now with this new job I may be averaging that each week at a nice hourly rate with overtime and paid benefits, 401k, holidays etc. I am very excited to go to work for this company but there are many things I will miss about working for myself.
If CARB wasn't doing what they're doing in the state I would stick things out and try and grow my business but with things as slow as they are right now I don't see myself being able to afford compliance later, seems like hanging it up now is probably the most sensible thing to do. That is probably about it for me around here as well though! I hope you all continue to do great things and thank you for all the help and guidance you've offered me on my journey as an O/O!
O/O no mo!

Can't blame ya, WC. You are young enough, when the time is right, you can get back into the O/O thing when you want to. Good luck with the new job, and keep us posted. Hope you hang around.

Good luck. Sounds like a good deal for you. There are many benefits to being your own boss but you have got to be able to earn a living at.
FREEBRD Thanks this. -
Good luck and at the very least please let us know how it works out for you.

When one door closes another one opens. You will be back in as an o/o before you expect, if that is what you'd rather do. It will end up being something that would never occur to you right now.
One thing that's always proven true for me is that when I take a turn in life by my decision, it seems like new opportunities just drop in my lap.
Good luck with the new direction! -
Good move... you are one of the smart ones.

Best of luck to you. And like the rest said, no need to leave the board...stay and continue to contribute.
