Just getting ready to graduate a 6 month CDL A school within 4 weeks, have 7 pre hires, wanted to go with the Roehl 7-4, 7-3 home time plus flatbed division. Everything was good, went for my DOT physical that they sent me to, disclosed that I was taking Lorazepam for anxiety which I quickly found out was a no no! The examiner passed me with a promise not to use the med while driving and gave me a 2 year card. Roehl however was not as good with it and sent the form for my doctor to fill out as to why I needed it, how long, and was I safe to drive on it. My doctor told me that no matter what he put they would not hire me on and I would have to take something else, he wasn't a DOT examiner so he was not up on what that might be. There is an instructor at my school that worked in safety for a few companies and takes Lexapro and that was not an issue. I can't seem to find the right answers and Roehl does a hair follicle drug test so failing because of a legally prescribed drug is rather concerning. Need some help on what I can take, or if I cannot take anything, thanks!
Are any anxiety meds ok to drive a cmv?

It can be as difficult as quitting smoking but weaning yourself off Benzos can and has been done. That is your best bet.

That guy in safety wasn't driving an 80k truck for a living...one accident and the attorneys would have the carrier by the short hairs.
Get off the meds... find something different. I can't believe your school didn't weed this out...oops... I forgot they just wanted the money! -
It's all about the money!
You have to get off the meds> -
What about lexapro that one of my instructors takes? Been on it 9 years driving, in safety, and now range instructor. Says its ok to drive on, is he full of crap?

Check with your DR, and your company. People on here have minimal tolerance and even less knowledge of RX medication. That isn't to minimize the danger of driving on Benzos... Don't do it...
Best of luck to you. -

Most anti-depressents / anxiety are ok now so long as they don't cause drowsyness. -
Your first problem is your doctor does not know the FMCSR. The way the regs are written is if your doctor is qualified he will determine what medication is safe to drive on. When the company sent the form to your doctor all they were doing was checking to see if he knew what the requirements were for driving on that medication. He basically has to give a statement saying you're ok to drive a truck while given this medication. It sounds like he was not going to take any risks and decided to blow smoke up your ### saying what the company is going to do. How would he know who they are going to hire?
I'm sure there are different meds that can do the same thing. My son was on that med and he stopped taking it and is no worse. If fact he's much better now.
You have two choices here. You can fight and find a doctor then a company that will take the risk. Or you can stop taking that med. It's hard enough for anyone to find work now so I would of course not restrict my chances. It sounds like Roehl was ready to go and only wanted the doctor to sign off on that med. You might have gotten that if you had a doctor willing to make the statement and maybe read FMCSR §382.213 -
There is a list of allowable meds . most companies have it. Jb Hunt allows me to drive on mine, You shouldnt have a problem once your doc sees this list.

I'm frigging confused! Thanks so far but if my Doc signed of on lorazepam my recruiter already warned ahead of time that it was probably a disqualifying med, can't afford that. Next question is that would Lexapro be cool or just as bad? Roehl called today and was very receptive to my concerns, they still want me so have got to make the right choices going forward, thanks all!
