There IS A DRIVER SHORTAGE!!!! Us Crusty Ol Drivers, ARE RETIRED.
Uncle Pete and 123456 Thank this. -
I know an ex-driver who is making more money driving a taxi cab than he
did after leaving the big truck.
I don't think it's any secret that driver pay scales are dropping like a brick.
A surplus of drivers (both foreign & domestic) have dilluted the wage base
across the board.
Theres no driver shortage.
Class A drivers are a dime a dozen nowadays.
As such supply & demand economics starts to kick in.
When you have to much of anything the price for it goes down.
By the same token when you have to many truck drivers in the
labor pool their market value is reduced (i.e.; lower pay).
Hence employers can pay what they want and there will always be an
excess of drivers in line to take the job...so wheres the shortage??..lol
The driver shortage hype doesn't hold water any more.
I hafta cringe when I hear drivers boast about making .29 cpm
I can recall when many drivers made .41/.42 cpm right outta the gate!
A lot of drivers don't care what they make today.
They're just out there to flash their big red rooster cruiser.
They're happy if they make a nickel a mile as long as they
can show off their rig.
I know several drivers who can show me pay stubs from years
ago that clear more than they make today.
I'm out there for one reason and one reason ONLY...to make
the best dollar possible.
And it's getting harder n harder to that in the truckin biz nowadays.Last edited: Feb 22, 2012
cisco Thanks this. -
I had to get outta OTR i was making .43cpm but i could barely crack 2400 a week. I went into food service delivery much better money but its harder work.
-
I used to drive for Sysco Foods many many moons ago.
They were a union shop so I made a pretty good buck.
I was in my twenties at the time and unloading trucks
with two dozen stops a day was no problem.
Once you pass yer mid-forties or so forget it.
I'd wind up in traction if I tried that gig again.
Drop n hook no touch freight is the only way to go.Last edited: Feb 22, 2012
