Turned 21 today. Very familiar with the trucking industry. Aunt and uncle are owner ops. Ive been driving forklift on the dock for a year now. I filled out an application to prime inc and called to speak with a recruiter. She said i had a good app. Explained the basics to me. Told me they would let me know in a couple days when everything comes back and schedule me for orientation. My goal with prime is to get 2 yrs exp then drive for my aunt and uncle.

Couple questions that i havent had a chance to ask my recruiter yet.

Do they slip seat or do you keep the same truck?
If you keep the same truck, can you take it home if you have a safe place to park it? Or do you have to park it at a terminal?

Do they pay hub miles? Any driving at all loaded or unloaded? Or is it dispatched miles?

    Layover pay?
    Unload pay?
    Stop off pay?

Over all. How did everyone like the training program? How do you like drving for prime? As a company driver?

Any other tips/opinions/stories for training and driving with prime?
    Thanks

Its been awhile for me, so I'm probably not the best source for this... check the posts in the "Company DAC Report" section in the Prime folder.

Your truck is your truck until its called back in.

You take the tractor home and park it in a safe spot. Company drivers in Springfield cannot bobtail off of the yard (long story.)

Dispatched miles for all miles loaded and unloaded. They did pay for a bobtail run home at Christmas one year for me. N Platte NE to Denver CO.

Better leave that one alone, I believe its changed since I was a company driver.

I liked it just fine, but your mileage may vary. I came to Prime with a CDL, so only did the dual training miles. I learned a lot, and my driving was much improved over when I arrived. Had some great times with my trainer - although Frankie was just not nearly as "cool" as he thought he was! LOL!

Company-side was OK, I don't agree or necessarily like everything they do. But hey... its a job. What job isn't like that? Good point... I thought they kept us running much better than many other companies late '08 and through '09 during the recession.

I am addressing this because this thread has gone unanswered as far as the various compensation levels.

I noted on the Prime site they address lease and o/o to some extent?

But there is no time defined to become an A driver from a B on the Prime site.

And also if one stays company as an A driver there is no designated compensation addressed in the various - refer, flat, tanker, van

Does this denote there are limited company drivers without a defined compensation progression or what !?

ie USA Truck at least states the compensation progression on their site. So whats up with the mystery factor or is it just a hard find ?

Prime is a great place to learn to get your CDL. It pays good also once you have your CDL in hand.
