    I am considering running long haul. Any input would be appreciated.
    Here’s my story;
    -Trucking; Studied on my own, received my license last week.
    Been driving part time for 1 month with permit and yesterday first solo run (14 hours).
    -Past experience; Ran my own company for 28 years, made lots of money. Lost most of it the last 5 years.
    -Personal; 55 Yr. Kids all grown (doing well:biggrin_25519:), married 32 years with major problems the last 5 years. Every night I get to hear what a looser I am. (Let’s be honest here, I didn’t help matters any by having an affair:biggrin_25513:.)

    So I know I am running away. Tried to once as a kid. Didn’t get far.

    Questions;
    -Do I need to go to school to get a good job even through I have my license?
    -Where should I look?
    -What should I look for?
    -What should I look out for?
    -ect. ect. ect.

    Thanks

    ^What this man said.

    Let's get real for a minute. First and foremost, if she's not willing to let go of the past and let you re-prove yourself to her, then why waste each others time? Move on and enjoy the rest of your lives. In all seriousness, harboring that much hatred is flat unhealthy.

    Next, figure out what you need per mile and the amount of miles you need to build a cushion for hard times and live a modest life. Take that number and add 10% to it for an emergency reserve/slush fund. Figure it up and you'll know what you need to start looking for.

    Above all else, stay away from CR England and Werner. You'll likely need to go to one of the bigs to get a start...at least for the first year. I'd check into Prime, Knight, Swift, and others. You may also check into mom and pops and see if you can get on board with one of them. Above all else, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Secondly, don't sign anything without having an attorney at least look at it.

    Good luck!

    I can tell you how to shut her up, first you start off by doing this [IMG]. Now she will still try to talk but she aint gonna say much, then finish the deal off with a little of this[IMG]. Once again she will be talking BUT it will be more of the words you wanna hear!

    I guess if it was under the heading of "An Important Question Concerning Lot Lizards" it would been family friendly?:biggrin_2559:

    I try not to say too much on this board, because I am not a trucker as my screen name says I am a quitter, I quit right after getting my CDL and had almost finished training with Werner. Your situation is similar to mine, (age, kids grown) so I'd like to add my opinion if you don't mind. You need to get that home life straightened out before doing OTR, or if you are anything like me you will get really depressed. What could happen is that you will start thinking something like this, "This job is really sucky. I am stuck in this truck with very little pay for 3 weeks before getting a weekend off and I go home and nobody appreciates it and my wife is all #####y. So, when I am at work it sucks, and when I come home it sucks --- sometimes I wonder why the hell I am living." I find it really helps if someone appreciates what you are doing, if it gets to the point where you don't like going home anymore you could become very depressed on the job. So that is my opinion, do not run away from your problems by going into trucking, solve them first! Of course you are not me, and your wife is not my wife, so what did not work for me might work for you.

    Thanks for the advice. Advice I'm getting is divided between walk away from her and there's a bigger meaning in life than needing someone telling you your ok. Needing someone to tell me I was ok is what got me into trouble in the first place. I could see my self getting that depressed out on the road.

    Right now I'm looking at two part time jobs that will bring me home most evenings. Wife's not too happy about trucking at all, but then; that's going to have to be ok.
