Here in Ohio class A is tractor trailer combination or truck and pintle hook combination.
Anyhow.. Renting a truck was 96.00 for the test and the test was another 80 something or another.
Im sure if you go to a site they will let you rent a truck for the test, whether it be by the hour or for the test. -
Ok I passed the written, but my question is how do I rent a truck with only a permit? Since a driver with a cdl is required
-
If you rent one from the testing site you will have the instructor with you.
If you rent one off site to take to a testing site, you need to either have the instructor meet you or have a qualified class A holder accompany you. -
Gaiphyx.....I have to hand it to you...As a trucker of 40 Yrs i can proudly say Im proud of you for doing this on your own. You are what a bunch of us old timers were like back in the day. we did it on our own just as you are doing... You get that CDL
old time Thanks this. -
Thanks RD, I would much rather do it like this. Thats good to know I'll just rent one at the testing site then. Do you guys have any advice for the driven? Thanks for responses

Not to say it can't be done, just harder. There are a handful of companies like Watkins Sheperd that require zero experience.
You're almost there Gaiphyx. Make sure you learn the regulations in your self training. There is a book of do's and don'ts. FMCSA Rules and Regulations.
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ is an invaluable website listing them all. It's also in book form most drivers carry with them. The more you know, the better off you will be. Drivers get in trouble everyday from lack of regulation knowledge.
You might put an ad on Craigslist. Some owner operator might help you out for the cost of fuel. It's always easier to have a truck driving friend.
If you plan on driving local, that's a whole different ballgame. I've had jobs where they ask you if you have a CDL. Okay, you're hired. My very first job, I didn't even know how to shift.
Good luck in your new career!TheRoadWarrior and TrainerX Thank this. -
Yeah Condo your right there... But i give him credit hes doing it on his own.. Im proud of him for giving it his best... Thanks Condo for the added information..sometimes i revert back to the old days...LOL

Ok, so monday I have in truck training, found a guy that will do $50 and hour, just going to practice on all the basic handling and maneuvering stuff, turns, backing up, parallel parking, etc. Thinking I will probably need about 2 hours of training there for the driven test, then I'll go take the test. I'll keep this thread updated. Thanks for the responses guys
