Classes start at a different time every day, and last until you get it done. This is intentional, just another informal test. As a working driver you will have to work irregular hours. Can you cope with a schedule like this. If you cannot be at class on time, can you expect TMC to believe you will be at a shipper or consignee on time? Missing appointments can be very expensive. So TMC will try to weed out the sick, lame and lazy as quickly as possible.

To answer your question, when you check in the hotel in Des Moines you will be given a packet to complete before classes start and you will be told what time to be in class and what time the bus leaves to get there. You will be told at the end of each day what time class starts the next day. Remember, being on time is really being late.

I can't speak for Columbia, I'm sure their procedures will be simular.

The length of each day depends on a lot of things. Some days are longer than others due to the material you have to go over. Some of your classmates can waste time slowing you down as well. It seemed to me that the first couple of days were the longest and they seemed to get shorter. The first day you are looking at filling out about 100 sheets of paper for government compliance, in addition to the 25 page packet you will be given upon hotel check in. (unless at columbia you don't get that packet from the hotel) Once everyone gets through that and a few other things you will be free.

Oh and prepare your family. You will have to turn your phone off during class. At Des Moines if your phone makes a noise during class it is confiscated.

    Good Luck.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how strict TMC is? I've got a clean record, both criminal and driving, the only thing Im worried about is the last time I drove OTR, I was teaming with my dad who was an O/O. The company he was leased to is under investigation by the DOT for all sorts of things. Its at the corporate end and has nothing to do with the drivers, Im just worried that might hurt my chances. I know that when my dad quit working for them, the owner said he destroyed all of our logs.
