I bought a 1982 W900 A kenworth. It has 400 A model cat, 13sp and 4.11 gears. If you have to stop on any kind of incline it is hard to take off. It torque's over really bad. It is like the clutch grabbing. I changed out the clutch and put new bushings on the rearends, but that didnt help. It has a ag 100 suspension. Would a 15sp deep reduction transmission help with the problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Slick900 Thanks this.

Sounds like a grabbing clutch, did you resurface the flywheel.
What kind of clutches are you using? Is it adjusted correctly?
A lot of variables here. You should not be having any issues lifting off with those gears and that 13 sp. check your motor mounts for broken bolts ect. Hope you get it figured out.

I had changed the front and back motor mount bushings also. The shop I used said they put a easy pedal eaton clutch in it and was susposed to resurface the fly wheel. It has about 2 inches of free travel. the shop I used said the linkage was good. Thanks

Changing the trans will NOT solve your problem. Without looking it up the difference between a 13 and a 15 in the bottom hole will be negligable>a 13 speed and 4:11 rears is an extremely low setup>today's trucks are 13 speeds and 3:55's or 3:26's.

What is your idle rpm set at? You could try lowering it to 600 rpm see if that helps. Pick a gear that you can lift off with no throttle. You should not be having any issues with what your specs are.

It idles around 600. It doesnt seem as bad sometimes if it is idling around 700 rpm

My LTL does that also. Very little slip, grabs hard even with slow release of the clutch but im used to it.
