Ok..I've been driving for several years now, mostly for small companies that have older beater trucks. I've never driven anything except once a volvo, 1 year a Pete 386 (worse truck ever) a century class freightshaker and now a columbia. I am going to lease purchase my own truck from a major carrier (Please, no negitive...I have made up my mind..no I don't want to keep on the way I'm going) my questions revolve around the trucks available. I am a terrible backer and need something truely manuverable. The Pete was terrible..I couldn't back it to save my life and the trailer wouldn't follow so couldn't even do a decent pull thru..Got trapped in flying J's everytime i got in one...the company I'm going with offers Century Class and Cascadia...I wonder of those 2 which is the easiest to get around in? I know the cascadia is bigger inside and offers more comfort but how about backing??? I'd appreciate any thoughts on comparing the two...Thanks in advance...A lonesome cowgirl![]()

Can't help ya. But have you considered pulling a Tanker?
-
my opinion is the cascadia may have a better turn ratio
ewill71 Thanks this. -
who are you giong to ,im thinking the same

far as backing, you have too figure out were the tadem is on the trl, also once empty and waiting for a load , find a big wall-mart and try too back between the lines and note which way it drifts as you back up, everyboby was a bad backer at one time, but the more you practice, the easer it comes, i'm just glad you dont do the caves in mo, them are really fun too back in,
btw mine was century with a set back axle and that really was a nice truck too back up with, you also might want too condserd getting a day cab with big window in back , too wacth your trl and just get a room for the night, when you stop for the day,
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
them are just big bulky trucks i personally dont like any of the aero dyne trucks they just feel spongy. I dont really think any truck backs up diffrent just turn the wheel and put it were yo want it. I think the cascadia looks nicer though. Good luck all the negative stories about lease purchase is crap.I did it a couple years ago ran hard and smart still took time off and was the best year ive ever had in trucking. And find a good accountant that knows trucking they will keep thousands in your pocket.

I have actually considered a tanker...easier to back up..lol

I have tanker endorsement and hazmat so no problem there...just getting a company to give me a chance...although if I'm not pulling a van or reefer than not considered otr for hiring purposes...ah well..what cha gonna do..lol -
I really don't want to say because I don't want to get all the negitives going...Every company has drivers that like them and drivers that hate them...I like to form my own opinions...if there is some way to send a private message here send me one and I'll tell you
-
this is probably spoken by a person who's never had a problem with it...some ppl can do it right off the bat and some ppl can't...
I was basically worried about the Cascadia and it's turning radius..that Pete I drove you couldn't turn worth a darn...The trailer wouldn't follow going forward and cut way out of line going back..sometimes I would move the trl an inch or two and then do it again and again to get in the hole..It was the pits and an experience I don't care to repeat

Thanks everyone for the answers..I've tried asking ppl in truckstops that drive these trucks but I run into the problems of the older guys that have driven a lot of different kinds say " there is no difference...just pratice" lol..do they not think after a few years I have praticed enough..? and the younger ppl have only driven what they are driving because all the big companies are buying Cascadias and Internationals..agggghhhh!!!
