    I became a truck driver last fall in pursuit of a childhood dream/bucket list item. I wanted to drive a "big truck", but knew the lifestyle would never suit me. I have now driven a truck in 32 states, and through at least 10 major US cities - all multiple times! This adventure has been a dream come true. I proved to myself that I could take part in one of the most unique job/career/lifestyles in the world.

    I thoroughly enjoy driving and am fortunate enough to have chosen one of the few good starter companies available. From the start, I never expected to quit this soon, however, I have multiple personal reasons and indications that now is the proper time to close this chapter of my life. I am pleased with this experience and am at peace about moving on. I will never forget the incredible people I have met or the awesome things I have seen. Furthermore, my worldview has been changed as a result of my experiences; while on the road, I have learned much about myself, other people, and the world.

    The Truckers Report site and members have been a huge asset throughout this journey - Thank you to all who contribute invaluable information and support:biggrin_25514:! TTR will remain in my browser's bookmarks, as my heart lies within the transportation sector. In fact, it is my hope to find a job within the industry, possibly as a [non-evil:biggrin_25525:] dispatcher.

    I can no longer take for granted the process and drivers required to sustain this planet. Thanks to all of you who live this lifestyle and sacrifice to supply the world! I pray daily for your safety.

    You are bowing out with class and dignity. I applaud you for that. Most people here on TTR that leave the industry, go into a tantrum bad mouthing their company or "the other guy". Best to you in your quest for a new career.

    @bullhaulerswife: Thanks! I'll definitely log in when I can... It's the least I can do for fellow newbies & wannabe's.

    @Hitman: De nada! I believe in personal responsibility. I did my research, came into the industry with my eyes wide open and honestly was not surprised by much once I got out on my own (much thanks to TTR). As I wrote before, I got in with a decent company, and the only blatant lie I was told before being hired was where their shipping lanes are.

    @slim shady: What?:biggrin_25519:

    Thanks to all for the well wishes! I actually got a call requesting an interview just moments ago!

    I want to wait to disclose that until after I formally resign. If you are currently searching for a company though, send me a PM. Thanks!

    As fate would have it, my resignation has been expedited. Over the past few days, I have been patient with my company as they have attempted to get me loads back to the terminal for regularly-scheduled home time. Though I am in a MAJOR shipping lane for our company with regular loads between here and my company terminal, I have been stuck in the same metro area for five days. I am 2 or three days past my return date, and on my third load (lots of sitting). Communication has been uncharacteristically abysmal, even for this company (it took me an hour to even reach the company operator yesterday). Not only has there been lack of communication between me and my company, there has also been a severe lack of communication among employees in the office (esp. night and day dispatch). Originally, I wanted to give the courtesy of 2-weeks notice, but the sheer level of incompetence displayed this week has changed my mind - quite frankly, I do not trust that they would route me back in after two weeks. I would like to blame all of this solely on lack of communication, but I am beginning to have my doubts, especially after they told me there are not many trucks in the area - I'm not stupid or blind - there are plenty in the truck stops! I will still leave peaceably, yet abruptly.

    I haven't decided whether the revised logistics of quitting tonight is good or bad: I am scheduled to arrive at the terminal tonight after everyone in the office has gone home. I guess I will send the necessary qualcomm messages and email my letter to all the necessary parties upon my arrival tonight and then call to confirm they received the messages on Monday. Not the way I would choose to leave, but it isn't like I have much choice.

    Even through these complications, I stand by my original statement that this is a good company - at least compared to other OTR companies.

    Thanks for sharing. As a newbie myself I would like to chime in with the request that you continue posting. Hate to lose someone who seems to have a good opinion of their company, and is willing to discuss faults as well as the good points. I wish you luck, and I am glad to know you are at peace with your decision.
