Really!
If i have a flat i will drag it off an exit ramp before stopping on the shoulder,
Who cares about the rim!
Not worth risking lives over.
I would hate to be a tire-repair truck driver. They have a dangerous job for sure.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
I know of a few companies that forbid stopping on the side of the road, or on off/on ramps during a non-emergency.

You do bring up a good point. And yes... I misunderstood the post.
Oddly enough... I had an incident like this years ago. I broke a cam on a trailer brake near Marshfield, Wi back in 1998. I pulled onto the shoulder (as far away as I could get from the lane of travel) and put my triangles out. Climbed back up into the cab to make a phone call and got hit by gentleman that had a seizure (his first episode) behind the wheel less than 10 seconds after shutting the door. Just goes to show you that anything can and will happen out there. If he'd been there 10 seconds earlier.... I might not be here today.SHC Thanks this. -
SHC I am a newbie and I did not take you post as picking on newbies....It was just to show what could happen if is stop on the side of the road.
SHC Thanks this. -
About couple of months ago on I-65(somewhere around mm230), i had a drive tire blow up on tractor, than it broke away mud flap hanger which somehow traveled together with its mud flap between rest of drive tires and bottom of the trailer, hit and cut both of brake hoses at the valve.
I had no choice but to stop on the shoulder of a small bridge. (very scary, considering it was just around a curve and vehicles passing by at 70 mph).
I grabbed pair of pliers, somehow made "fake" threads and connected two sides in order to release trailer brakes. Than i dragged it a mile down the road to rest area where i waited to be "rescued" by "cheap and friendly" road service.

SHC ya probably should've said pull over as far as you can. I had a radiatior hose go out on me the hill on 97 north of Madras near MM80. Didn't have much of a shoulder to pull onto, but I pulled over as far I safely could. I also put out the triangles as quickly as I could. I also had the flashers on. I stayed in the truck till the repair truck came. While he was doing a fix to get me to a shop I put out flares. Of this happened at night.

I'm guilty But I won't unless I can get far off the road.
Then there was about 2-3 wks ago I was goin up I81 in VA when truck shut off. Blew a radiator hose. Was lucky truck wouldn't start back but I was at the cars only rest area before wytheville. And had enough room on the get on ramp to be outta the way and fix the problem til I got to TS.
You made a good point tho -
Don't take it personally. Truck drivers would argue about today's date if you give them a chance. Nothing can be so clear it can't be misunderstood by someone trying hard enough.SHC Thanks this. -
Not sure if it works on new trucks but i have used the starter and low gear to get it off the road when the engine died.
I would rather burn up the starter than be stuck at the edge of the shoulder.
I noticed a team truck broke down the other day right on the line of the slow lane.
Both drivers were out of the truck and standing 30 feet away at the edge of the woods while waiting on a hook.
Smart guys!123456 and keepntruckin Thank this.
