Our company don't bother with the dac system. I've never heard of it til I got laid off back in the great depression. I just assumed it was a dumb dumb company thing because all the dumb dumb companies checked it

You better ask your company. If you make them mad they'll put on your dac abandonment.I've heard it happens. My company i'll be starting has a long history or drivers abandoning equipment and left it at a drop yard, they got them for abandonment. Most drop yards are not a secured place. You can handle staying there till you get back to the terminal can't you?

Couple of other things to consider:

    1. If you're pulling a hazmat load (eg chem tanker) you are required by Federal law not to leave that load unattended anywheres but a "secure facility".... which is somewhere where they have the ability to deal with accidental discharge of the contents. Truckstops, etc don't meet that. Applys to "empty" trailers too until they can be "purged" of residue, fumes by a licenced facility. You really don't want to run foul of this law.

    2. Should either the vehicle you "abandon" or the load on it be damaged or stolen from, guess who's the Prime Suspect?

I also would suggest if you do not want to tarnish your reputation you do it right, give notce and bring the truck where they ask you to.

If I was close to home I'd tell them I was really sick (sick of them)
and go home and when monday rolled around I'd tell them I was probably going to be off a couple weeks due this illness. I bet they'd make arrangements to get the truck.
and If they put it on dac I'd file suit for a mid six figure sum.
Filing in federal court is only 325.00. I'd bump the dice for the payoff.
I don't know why all these guys are affraid of this dac stuff?
If these companies can't prove what they put on a report and dac publishes it they both are responsible for any danages it may cause.
remember this fact juries like the little guy (unless he's a acsehole)
    Juries hate BIG companies.

I gotta laugh at this one......Local news headlines "Jury finds in favor of johnny Trucker". Johnny Trucker sued mega truck company for messing up his DAC. After 1000's spent for a high priced lawyer, Johnny Trucker won a verdict in his favor, but mega truck company says will appeal, which could take years to get thru court system. Meanwhile, Johnny Trucker can't find a trucking job and is depressed.

15 minutes is plenty of notice. I've rarely given ANY company notice. And the ones I have given notice to, spent 7-21 days working me into the yard.

My DAC only shows "Dropped at unauthorized location" for one company. Which was unable to substantiate the claim when pressed for documentation, tow bill, recovery charge, etc. it was dropped in their yard.

Right to work states allow the severance of employment by either party for any reason, at any time ....without notice.

Make sure you have another job lined up before you quit. Let your new employer know that your current place of employment may screw with your DAC upon your leave.

Do you have any idea how long the court process takes from point A to point B?By the times it finally does go to trial. You'd be too old to drive, lol. Why not just do the right thing, take it to their terminal give them your keys cards ect and quit peacefully.Giving them a 2 weeks notice is really the way to go if u can hold out that long, then they'll pay for your busticket back home.

I hope mine shows me urinating on the truck I parked (with pictures) that way I won't be able to work at one of these minimum wage dac checking outfits, Just in case I ever got the itch for doing something so asinine again.
