Pete..you can correct me if I'm wrong...It seems your revenue has jumped up quite a bit..Is 3,400 miles per week typical or an exception?

What's your fuel mileage per gallon?
    How fast are you driving?
    Are you on E-logs?
Has any REQUIRED accounts been satisfied recently? (Meaning they aren't holding out extra money)

    Thanks

Good week last week. This week started out good with 1800 miles on fri but only got a choice of 2 loads on fri 600 miles each both delivering mon morning. Neither load could deliver early so I will end up with around 2400 miles.Fuel mileage is horrible this week because of all the wind.

My fuel mileage sucked this week also because of the wind. This week wasn't very good for miles either only about 2000. I had to take a 34 because I did most of my miles towards the end of the pay period last week. Then when I finally got truck out Friday afternoon there was not much left for loads for the weekend.

Jaguar,I have really worked on my fuel mileage since coming to ACT,it makes a big difference in take home pay.I just looked at the Qualcom reading and it shows 7.9 mpg on 1900 miles, the dash shows 8.3.I've checked it manually and the Qualcom is right on.I've been doing about 58 mph avg.My next pay check is fri and its about 2400 miles but had to fight the wind the whole week, never could catch a tailwind.I think I will avg about 6.9 maybe 7.0 for that week.I did pay off my 1000.00 deductable escrow acct. They take out 75/week for 13 weeks to satisfy that acct.so yes my pay is 75 more now.

The 3400 mile week is an exception.Things really have to go right to get those kind of miles here.My mileage is picking up though as we come out of winter. If I had to guess,a guy could probably avg. 25-2600 miles a week and still take some decent time off.I'm not on elogs yet but rumor has it we all will be by the end of the year.I dont think it is going to make alot of difference to me because I run legal and ACT audits the crap out of your logs.My only hope is that if the whole company goes on elogs, that the planners will use it to plan your loads better,to use your hours.I've never used elogs so I dont have a bias one way or the other,I just went with what I know by using paper.

Fuel surcharge is .46/mile this week and of course it keeps going up.We get a discount fleet price at pilot and flying j,it differs on how much from state to state and locations, ect. If I was paying 4.00/gal right now and could avg 8.0,my fuel would be costing me .32/gal.So in reality I dont care how high it goes, the higher the better for me.When it hits 10.00/gal I'll be doing great for about a month, then the economy will collapse and I'll be screwed along with everybody else.

Pete, thanks for your response...I will be in orientation at ACT on the 12th...They called and asked me if I could be there on the 5th (guess they got some trucks in) but 2 days notice was not enough notice.

E-logs make me nervous (because its new to me), but if the planners and FM's are all on the same page with the driver...maybe it will work. Marsha (recruiter) says her uncle works for ACT and was apprehensive about e-logs also. Claims to be making more money with them than with paper.

Thanks for the info...we'll see ya out there..

Good deal Jaguar, hope ACT works out good for you!
I don't think the elogs are that big of a deal here, because you don't get those big miles all that often,at least I don't.The people at the office and the shop are really good. They treat you with respect and that means alot to me,especialy these days.I had a load that I picked up mon. in Lawton going to Columbus.OH that was supposed to deliver thur 0700,could deliver early if they had a empty.I drove it steady 58 mph and got there wed. moning at 0930 delivered it and was hoping to get a load right away to keep moving,ACT told me I was first up on the board in this area.Didn't get a preplan till 1330 for a load from Florence KY to St Joe MO.picking up tommorow morning 0700.

What I'm getting at is that I still drove the load at 58 mph to get the good fuel mileage and make my money that way.If I had run 65 and 70 all the way,I would probably still have gotten the same load as I got and done nothing but waste fuel and sit at a truck stop for a little longer. This company doesn't have 1000's of loads to slap on you as soon as you get empty,so you have to run the ones you get as smart as you can.

Thatload from Florence to St Joe is nice. We used to do about 5 of those a day but Swift underbid us on them. Delivers in St Joe as soon as you get there. You need to have a strap or two and weighs about 20,000 lbs.
