You guys are preaching to the choir...
I've been at LS for 11 yrs and have been working aprox 5 -6 months a yr for the last 2007. I have grossed aprox $100K for about 50K miles give or take.
Yes I could work more, but why ? I've been trucking 26 yrs and to be honest with you guys... I don't want to be out here any longer then I have to. I've done my time, my equipment is paid for and in good shape. I even built a house in the country 11 yrs ago and I want to enjoy my home and my life.
Working smart is much more important then chasing freight all over the country for weeks, months at a time. All you have to look around at others and you see drivers morbidly over weight, anti social. You see then going the road as fast as they can as long as they can... and for what ?
You can make a $100K at 50K miles, work 5-6 months a yr or work 10 months, run 100K miles and make $160K and actually only end up with an extra 10 grand after everything is said and done with... mean while your family is without a father... wife without a husband. I've seen more marriages destroyed due to trucking then anything else.
I need money, i work a little harder, the bank accounts are flush, I take it easy and enjoy life.... So when I see someone saying they are on a quest to earn X amount of money... all I can do is shake my head because they haven't figured it out yet.
All is good![]()

that is my plan as well. I am out here running hard to get the bills caught back up and a little ahead. I'm planning on taking most of September and all of October off. Hopefully I will be able to work the system to my benefit and be able to only go out 2 days a week after all is said and done

I am home every weekend and holiday (plus by the house at least once or more during the week), take two weeks off a year at least, and my 1099 for 2011 was $190K. Plates reimbursed, no payment of IFTA taxes, physical damage $60 a month, bobtail $28 a month, Qualcomm $10 a week. Of course fuel and maintenance all mine. While it is not the bigger $250K gross of others, I also have very small outlays for stuff other than fuel and maintenance.SHC Thanks this.

I'm planning to buy another truck and hire a driver. With a potential gross of 200k, I could pay the driver better than the mega carriers and hopefully well enough to keep him/her happy. Eventually I'd like to add a third and forth truck.
But even IF i choose to stick with one truck, why not get as much money as possible for the work I'm already doing??? Some of you, based on your responses are doing really well: gross over 200k, home weekends with 'homeruns' during the week. Yeah! I want that. It may mean getting my authority but regardless, it's time to make some moves!SHC Thanks this. -
Sounds like u got a heck of a set-up there then. I don't blame ya for going that way. I gross'd over $250k the last 2 year with QC on my dedicated lane but I had a lot of overhead and home expenses. Now with most of them all taken care of and the fact my gravy train loads have gone away, I am going to try to relax a little more and enjoy life.

We all want that LOL !!!!

Its not about the gross, its about how much of the gross you keep, thats the important part. Someone doing $200k a year might not be doing as good as the guy only doing $100k a year. More is not allways better.
