Driver's side to keep it out of trees. Is this a pole?

No, but I was curious, I've got a 780 volvo, and right now the antenna is behind the sleeper, and it sucks....

I've run a single antenna on both sides at different times and had good results,It seems like I got better reception on the passenger side, plus the coax was out of the way and easier to route to the cb,but I would catch the occasional tree branch. When running my antenna on the driver side the coax would get in my way when opening and shutting the door.I even tried running the coax out side of the truck, from the top of the driver side mirror, through the windshield visor, through the passenger window, that worked ok as well.I think it's all personal preference,I tried several different ways before settling on the passenger side.

With the steel cab of a Volvo, and the front of your trailer, you are probably blocking a majority of the signal.

The Drivers side is better to protect your antenna from damage. But the Passenger side gives the better ground plane for getting across the Hi-way.

Passenger side is a great choice as long as it's a whip style. I can't tell you how many times I've had problems due to the coax wearing out.

No, but short braid straps, less than 24" if possible, wouldn't hurt a thing and may help a great deal. My brother drives a Volvo and doesn't have a ground problem so maybe you won't need to run anything at all. You won't know until you try it.

I have an antenna on both mirror brackets. Its a cosmetic thing. LOL only the passenger side is hooked to the radio though. But then peterbilt ran the coax through the door jam area and the coax doesn't hold up to the constant opening and closing of the door. So I ended up running a single coax out the passenger vent window to the passenger side antenna.

I do have a little blind spot due to the trailer blocking signal but it only depends on how far away the other radio is.
