Hello all Im new to this forum and also new to the interest in trucking! I find this forum very informative and I can't get off of it. I currently work in a hospital overnight 12 hour shifts monitoring suicidal/behavioral patients, on a good night 10 hours of it are on this forum reading as much information as I can about all kinds of topics.

My current situation is that Im interested in getting into this lifestyle and very excited to start. My girlfriend is also excited for me and also willingly wants to come along with me. We have no ties at home..( No kids bills etc.) and as bad as it may sound we both have no concern for hometime...Doesnt bother us and could care less to be home often!

The only bad situation is that I applied for Central Refrigerated and got in contact with my recruiter however after going over my application he said that my one and only ticket that I have ever recieved ( Careless Driving) was going to be the only thing right now to prevent me from starting. (I wrecked my motorcycle leaving work early one damp/dewey morning and went to stop and tires kept sliding and I dropped the bike) So because that ticket is not 3 years old only about 1 year now I have been told its a no go.

I did alot of research regarding this situation and called numerous companys with them all saying the same thing. With that bad news I started researching my options and came across and article that said I could possibly write the traffic judge a letter asking for the Carelless to be dropped to a smaller charge or be expunged either way Ill be happy as long as it gets me into trucking! So I wrote the letter asking for expungement or reducement of the careless! Its now a waiting game until I get a reply back from the judge (through mail) but crossing my fingers this works out because I really dont want to have to wait 2 more years.

If things work out I'll most likely be calling up Central Refrigerated first and trying them out. So Ill keep everyone posted on my progress unless (knock on wood fingers crossed) I cant get the ticket reduced...Then I will just have to sadly keep reading forums for 2 years until it comes my time!

Have you actually seen your recent MVR and does it actually indicate a "Careless Driving" violation? Don't put out any more apps until you've seen your MVR and verified this. It may be there ... I'm just saying many times, we get lucky and what was assumed might happen, doesn't for whatever reason.

I have not physically seen the MVR record however I assumed that when I called the Clerk of Courts and asked about my record she pulled it right up and stated Careless Driving....Im not sure if they have a diffrent database and its not what actually shows up on my MVR..That would be awesome. I guess its worth a shot! Thanks for the Tip!

another option might be to go with a small outfit that may overlook it and give you a chance. bigger carriers seem to be more picky due to the insurance. jmoo

Calling the clerk of courts will always show that you had that ticket. The clerk of courts is not DMV and so you should check your own MVR like suggested. I have seen that court and the state always get things messed up. This could go in your favor! Good luck and welcome to the forums.

I would like to do that however my choice for the bigger carriers was based on the fact that they have schools and provide tution.. I dont currently have the money to pay to get my CDL from a local school! If I did I would then be taking the risk of paying to get my CDL and still no company wanting to take me on for 2 more years. That would suck!

I am currently a Police Officer in NC and wanted to let you know that the court will always have a record of the ticket. Doesn't mean that the State got word of it!:biggrin_25524: Starting second week in school though so not to much longer in that career!
