You asked if GAS prices, so I'll surmise you mean GASOLINE and NOT diesel prices?? Am I correct?? A trucker would not call or mix up diesel and gasoline, but a wannabe would or so would a newbie.

They both go nearly hand in hand at the pumps however. But how do you mean, kills jobs??

Do you mean truckers losing thier jobs, or the general public losing thier jobs??

Trucking companies will make cuts where they need to, and many times, that will mean NO idling times, and cutting back on road speeds. A truck that was able to cruise at say 65 mph, may have already been cut back to as low as 58 mph!!!

The average public/private citizen, if he/she loses thier jobs due to high fuel prices, then the trucking company has one less pick up or delivery to make. This will have a "ripple effect" on ALL trucking companies. Lay-off's in the trucking industry do happen.

Many mega-carriers have hiring freezes in place already, or at the very least, CAN BE demanding in who they hire. Got no experience, and fresh out of school??

Good luck in getting a job over an experienced driver that can do the job in good time and save fuel over a newbie that cannot back up, watch his speed, has a long bad driving record, a criminal record, or bad grades and high absenteeism from a trucking school. All these things MATTER to the H.R. Dept at ANY trucking company.

So in the end, "will high gas prices kill jobs"??

I say, a resounding YES, yes it will, especially to the new ones trying to come into the business, and frankly, to me, that IS good news. We DO NOT NEED newbies that cannot do the job, and quit all because they miss home or can't handle the BS the dispatcher gives them.

It's always been a job for the strong minded, not the weak minded or cry babies.

    Zoltan1a Thanks this.

The bad part is diesel is a by product of making gasoline..yet it costs more a gallon than gas does..

That has NEVER made a bit of sense to me at all...

Sure it does. It's just like all the sugar free, fat free food. They cost more because they have to pay the extra workers to remove the sugar and fat. Sugar Free should mean that they're not charging you for the sugar, when they're charging you for something that's not in it.. Make sense now??:biggrin_25523:

Nope...they should be happy they don't have to dispose of it or pay the poluton fees for having to burn it off lol

ok seriously..I'm sure there is work involved producing it.the same as for gasoline..but it shouldn't cost more than gasoline ever..

Which is why, when given a chance or choice, I do not always buy "recycled products" or "sugar free". I mean go to any local Home Depot/Lowes, and check on new products and recycled ones. The recycled ones always seem to cost more. So why bother, when "new will do"???

It does cost more to refine food products to say "sugar free", but by golly, they want us to eat healthy, they want us to recycle, yet we end up paying more for what they want us to do??? :biggrin_2559:

But o matter what..the initial product was free to the producer..its a by product..yeah, they do those things to it BUT...doing those things does not justify charging more for it than gasoline

It was not free Petey....It's part of the 42 gallons ( 1 BBL ) that came off the ship, went through the coker and entered the distillation column to be distilled into refined products.

If he doesn't make diesel then he can make more gas, jet 1, bunker fuel, asphalt, motor oil and many other light ends like kerosene, naphtha, Coleman fuel etc. Most of which he gets more money for.....
