It's very simple, I faxed a copy of the summons to my mngr and got home in time to sit on the jury and got paid alittle (don't remember how much.)

To me this case just sounds like a case of miscommunacation within Swift, I bet if she had talked to the right people in HR and faxed the proof she would've been "rehired" without a problem.

Well, I just went through this but with a twist. I was a resident of Colorado up until June of last year but moved to Wyoming for tax purposes. So I was on the road for a couple of months, and picked up my mail the first time in about 6 weeks around November 1st and in my mail was a Colorado jury summons for Oct 5th, in the notice threats of a bench warrant if I don't appear, blah, blah...Sent them a form saying I lived in Wyoming, haven't heard back from them. ;)

And you most likely will not. They probably had no idea that you had moved. It takes a little time for certain records to get updated. They just sent the summons to the last known address you had on file with them. Once you responded, they update their records and move on.

Now as far as Swift, yep they're going to regret this. There's only a couple of things that really, really, really P-ss off a judge, and one of them is for a citizen to be fired from their job while serving on their jury. I wonder if the court has the discretion to "go off grid" so to speak, when it comes to assessing fines, and punitive damages. Sometimes they do and will. If the plaintiff asks for exemplary damages, they will certainly take advantage of it.

Pretty simple...Got jury summons..Handed to supervisor. Said "I'll see ya when I see ya". 3 weeks on a jury trial on a multiple murder. Paid for every day I was doing jury service. Returned to work after trial. No problems..Never lost a dime..

Aug, 2005, I was headed to my new job 180 miles away in a new state.

On Saturday before I was to start, I had a letter for Jury duty around 1 Sep.

I called the court on that Monday and told them the jist of it. They said disregard as I was no longer a "resident".

I sat on a grand jury a couple years ago, and I can tell you this , it will take several cops, a couple K9 and at least a few taser shots to get me back on a jury ever again.

I got called for jury duty. I went down to the court house and told them I was a long haul truck driver that stayed out weeks at a time and they excused me.
