lockridge report said 3 companies have been approved, one hasn't used the ability to cross yet. One is only a 1 truck outfit. and the other has only crossed minimal times.

This is second hand so take it for what it is worth.

My good friend that I went through truck driving school with wife is from Mexico and over 20 family members living there are drivers (Uncle once owned a trucking company). He has been told that companies there do not want this because of drug testing policies. FMCSA has made it very clear that they WILL be testing drivers as they come across boarder.

We need to remember the only reason that this has been pushed from the US side is that Mexico was placing tariffs on US goods and the US companies placed pressure to have this happen.

The FMCSA position has always been that this program would not be workable from a safety stand point. Prescribed drug use was one area that Mexico would not budge on in changing laws.

I see the Mexican trucks here in Tenn. waiting at the plant usually on Monday morning and Thursday morning. Usually two or three delivering and returning a load to Mexico each time. The trucks are green and have an aztec looking emblem on them. Don't know the company name.

It was neither Bush or Obama, Clinton is the one that signed NAFTA. The reason for the push is exactly as BigBadBill said, tariffs, specifically farming/lumber outfits in the US were pushing to open it up. A story about 2 years ago on CNBC showed Mexican companies and the Mexican equivalent of the ATA stating they had no interest in crossing. They don't want to play by the same rules we play by. .

im not a racist or nothing like that but why just pick on the mexican drivers when you have the russians, albanians, africans, italians, greeks and other non us citizens here driving everyday who cant speak a lick of english or drive. IMO! and i am not siding with anyone, including the mexicans, or our President of The United States of America. President Obama.IMO. I say stop all races of people from coming here if they are illegal............................................

While I agree it is frustrating to be at a shipper or fuel island and to have a guy take out his cell phone, speak to someone in a foreign language, then had the phone to the clerk so it can be explain. Even saw this happen at a scale during a level 3 inspection. My understanding is the law says you have to speak English to get a CDL.

But these people you are speaking about are running under the rules and regulations of the FMCSA because they are driving for a US based company. And I can't tell if they are here legally or not.

You just have to look at California to get an idea of what third world truck drivers will do to the industry. Try driving the I-5 corridor between L.A. and the Bay Area. EVERY time I drive the Grapevine there's a hispanic driver smoking his brakes. At the T/A in Wheeler Ridge, a DHE driver had just parked his truck in front of the shop with it's trailer brakes smoking badly. Turns out he was an owner-op there to get a tractor P.M. done, not have his trailer brakes checked. His brakes stunk up the shop for half an hour and he didn't even blink an eye. Just another clueless third world driver.

Mexican truckers have a bigger back bone than American truckers. I say"bring them all across" then maybe one day we will get something accomplished instead of bowing down to every rule the gubt decides on.
