Cabbage is one that starts out at 4% then about the time the "newbie" hits about the 6th corner and it goes to 6% they go ooooh i shouldn't of sped back up... and you don't wanna let it go to early at the bottom just because the road straitened out your still going down hill..

also ill mention Lewiston and White Bird on US95 both 7-8 miles and half way down they both go from 6% to 7%...

LOL. I would go down on the other side with my super tanker weighing right around 105,000lbs and going slow down the grade. Anywhere from 25mph to 35mph depending if the engine brake was working good. Then I'd have the "hot shots" come flying by me and I knew they were saying crap. But I'd just blow the horn as I passed them going into Laughlin as they sat on the side of the road with smoke just pouring out from their brakes. They'd sometimes even still be there after I unloaded at the station and I'd wave. After all you have to be nice.

6% in 8th ... your jakes would be non existant in just about any truck. The rpms have to be up for the jakes to work, to high of a gear and the jake becomes "non-existant".

I have prostar. Going down the Grapevine I get in 6th, set the cruise to 33 mph and it holds at 33-38 all the way to the bottom. I've run I68 at 79K and my jakes held fine in 7th gear.

That hill going into Laughlin is no joke and another good one I just thought of is in Montana on HWY 12 between Garrison, MT and Helena, MT. When going eastbound off the top you start off with 8% grade (1-2 miles I think) then its like another 6 miles or so of 6%. It will make ya dirty your shorts if ya arent being careful. Nice twists and turns too.

How many times can you go down a moutain to fast? 1 and you will not live to do it again... How many times can you go down a moutain to slow? As many times as you want... Remember slow down in the moutains...If you take a down grade too fast you may end up dead and that would not make you more money...

    you talking Lolo Pass Momma's?

I always think of the slopes up in British Columbia around Kamloops and Kewlona

I want to say there's one I remember on BC5 that REALLY surprised me when I was done to 5th gear even with an empty flatbed. Granted it was a castracted 350 mack. Coquihala pass if I am remembering correctly. Haven't been on it since '91.

I use to run all three of those passes before they were fixed. Just switchbacks down the sides of mountains.
You haven't lived until you've done the OLD whitebird, pulling triples!

Cabbage is easy if you watch the signs. Those speed limits at the top are real. I've seen the OSP sitting halfway down or at the bottom just watching the trucks roll off...then stopping them for a big fat ticket.
I ususally do Cabbage in 5th with my jake...stay between 18 and 23 and virtually never touch the brakes.

LOL ohh yeah just love LOLO pass!!! Same here with those BC slopes they have some reaaaalll dooseys up there and the coq hasnt changed much with its nice 8% at the top. I just love it when running to Kamloops and you climb all those miles of 6% (going up the coquihala) and then theres packed snow on the last 2 miles of 8% and grossing 105,500. Glad I dont do that run much anymore and now only gross 80,000
