Anyone know of a good fuel card to get? My company gave me a comdata card but I don't really get any discounts at the pump! Any info will be helpful! Thanks!

You get a discount with Fleet one as long as you use specific fuel stops thats in the fleet 1 book.

The company I am leased to supplies Comdata cards to O/O's that choose to use them. I have a dozen or so pages of a bunch of the truck stops that offer a discount when paying with a Comdata card. There is a $4.00 transaction fee every time the card is used.

As for me, I only have three "cards" in my wallet, my Texas CDL, Texas CHL & my Debit card. I pay cash for all of my fuel, discounted fuel price, no $4.00 service fee from Comdata and no fuel bill to worry about at the end of the month. Skip the cards & pay cash.

    $4.00 ? I pay anywhere from .25 ( mom and pop ) to $1.50 ( Pilot / Petro ) using company Comdata per swipe.

Hmmm....perhaps some more input on Comdata swipe charges is in order. Me thinks your carrier is making a 'lil too.

Join NASTC cost is $250 per year and no fee for swiping card. $2.50 per month admin fee. I used to pay cash but after joining NASTC and getting the discounts through them using a fleet 1 card I save $80 to $120 per week getting discounts on fuel. It is automatically withdrawn from my account every Friday for the previous 7 days of fuel purchases. I chose the day. If you would prefer you can pay up-front and preload your card with any amount over $500. I have a $5000 per week line of credit.

Comdata thru Landstar has $0 fees when I use it ANYWHERE to buy fuel. Our discounts are at T/A and Petro mostly (usually .10-.45 off per gallon) and we get .08 off at all Loves. But u also have to be leased here to get the card. But $4 service fee is crazy!!!

So what is the difference between the Fleet One card OOIDA offers & the one through NASTC?

Also, while were on the subject of discounts, WHAT ELSE is available to a o/o? Anything? Tired of getting raped then seeing the offending companies ad for "check our National Account Pricing" ten minutes later.

Approved carriers can get that fuel discount as well when hauling loads through a Landstar agent although I don't know how that works, just going by what Bill was telling me. We use TCH fuel card through England Logistics, figured we'd have to have comdata to get the Landstar discounts but dont quote me on that. No fees on England Logistics TCH card, for me leased on, other than $1 every time I swipe it. The discount isnt so great but still ok, 6 cents a gallon any pilot/j, we get a few pennies at TA/Petro, Loves as well but I hardly ever fuel at those so dont really know. There is no discount at ACT's or mom and pop fuel stops..

The comdata thing I think the discount doesn't get reflected until billing. Maybe the company isn't passing the savings along?

There are plenty of fuel programs one can join as an independant.

Example is Pacfuel which is free of charges and a 4 cent discount at Pilot's. Most are like that. Fleet fueling has bigger discounts if the company wasn't greedy.

That is correct, the Comdata discount is reflected on the invoice. The actual CPG is lower thant the pump price. How much lower depends onthe size of your company and how well they negotiate w/ the Com Data rep.

The savings should offset the service fee, Last place I was involved w/Com Data, we had $0.04 to $0.06 off the pump price and the fee was $2.50...
