Hmmmm...Let me do some more checking. I will say this: I have been told by a couple recruiters the following:

They said they would take me on if I were a new graduate coming out of school with a newly obtained class A CDL; however, because I'm coming out of a refresher course, they can't bring me on without at least 6 months experience, which my refresher course does not give--it only gives me 140-160 hours of drive time. I think the concern for these companies is that many refresher courses are fly-by-night and do not meet their high standards.

When I ask if I can simply go through "their" truck driver training school, some responded with "no", as I already have a class A CDL. I think this sounds weird also. The refresher course is the same hours as the formal course; however, I am not required to take tests--I guess this might raise a concern for the company.

I definitely will call Schneider again--they do local as well, don't they? I plan to land myself in local after about 5 years OTR and settle into some nice town somewhere. It would be nice if I could get on with a company that offers several future options.

    Thanks for the input.

    Peace,
    H

Wish i would have known earlier that you were down in the dust bowl.. i would have called onStar and had them set off the alarm on my truck (the only way i could have said hello from where i'm at). Hope your truck didn't get too dirty while you were there.

    THIS!!^^^

That is the rudest thing any company can do, call you during your 10. Turn that badboy off. That is YOUR time, not theirs.

Thats what I do also turn that phone off unless I have something going on @ home with one of the Grand-babies...I would also tell them that if they keep disturbing your 10 hour break that you will restart it from the time you hang up from them. I had a company that I drove for try to pull that crap. Did it one time too many & their load came back late... They wanted a reason & I told them. They didn't call me again during my breaks.
Same with the qualcom crap putting out that CSA/tickets for the day... Continuassly goes off when your trying to sleep..Hate it!

I have my volume all the way down on my qualcomm. Just one beep per message. It cuts off after so much time with the key off. Now the thing never bugs me when I'm sleeping

I've just finally decided... after a LONG time of thinking...

I'm ready to get out of OTR ASAP. I'm tired of it. If I can't find local work somewhere, then I'm getting out of trucking completely.

I've had it with being away. I haven't had much home time this year... four days since Christmas.

Every time I do get to go home, I get calls asking to head back out.

I'm tired of living in a truck and I want to be able to persue the things in life that I want to do. I can't do any of the things on my list as an OTR trucker.
