Does anybody know why the DOT requires 10 years past employment? The companies, from my experience, don't go back that far. I don't understand the reason for the decade. Also the stipulation of the no gaps in employment. The DOT regs are frustrating.

that's been a mystery to me. it's only 3 years if you've never had a trucking job.
while it's not a requirement for other types of work. it's usually asked anyways.
the biggest BS is they want verification from past employers. yet, NOT ONE employment bothers to fill out those forms. they just get thrown in the trash.
and i don't think there's anyone that keeps one job for 10 years. most have a habit of bouncing around. can you imagine having to fill out a verification just for one driver. for ten years. just becuase he's looking for work.
the country NEEDS truckers. yet the truckers are the BIGGEST JOKE to the country AND THE GOVT.

I always said if I knew how, I would lobby the Govt to streamline the hiring process for truck drivers. Background checks, HazMat, TWIC all have different background checks. And DOT physicals are the same way. Every company wants their own long form used. Why is that? Can't all DOT physicals be the same? Why can't there be a standard form for all companies to use.

Official regulation: List all jobs for the past 10 years. Verify for the last 3 years. Gaps ? reasoning is, they think you may have been in the lock-up if you haven't been working.
