I guess maybe do some walking and try to get your heart rate up before you go there to kind of condition yourself a little bit. That's all you'll really need.
The squat thing, you are allowed to put one hand down to balance yourself, so do that if necessary.
The only other thing really is the step test to make sure your heart rate doesn't rise too much. I was/am totally out of shape now but my heart rate didn't go over 125 or 130 on that.
Basically put, if you were able to pass the DOT physical when you got your medical card, there won't be a problem.

I'm going to go do the test today. I called my recruiter and told her my concern so she's letting me come in a week early to go through it. My problem is that I've had three back surgeries in the last 5 years, two of which were in the last year. The last one in June was a major fusion with a 12-18 month recovery time. I'm ahead of where I should be, but getting strength and balance in my legs has been the challenge.
At least if this doesn't work out I still have other options, but I hope this goes well. Being able to stay at home for orientation would be nice. -
So...Schneider is out.
Failed miserably. -
Jack,
Can you tell me more about the physical agility, I just got off the phone with the recruiter and am worried about that part, would hate to go 1200 miles to orientation and get sent home. What is involved? Weights? Heights? etc... thank you so much.. -
You do a step up/step down routine. (checking heart rate). Then you have to ba able. Hold on. They have the whole thing on their website. It's not bad.
-
They actually give a great explanation via video on their website. It's under Orientation and at the end of the paragraph there's a link to the video.
Russjac Thanks this. -
Sorry it didn't work Jack. Hope that you are able to find something that will be able to work with your situation. I wish you all the best.

Trans Am looks pretty promising right now, offered to fly me out yesterday.

Thanks for the link, seems if you can't do what's described there, you shouldn't be in anybody's truck (in fact one of the test's simulates your ability to get IN the truck). I'm a big fat-body and I could do all of it easily.
Thanks for the thread BTW, trying to get into Schneider or W/S when I get out of CDL school.
