That team truck is one of your downfall, a team on a truck why is the truck sleeping at night, that's the whole reason for a team is to keep it running. Now a team running about 3700 a week not good, a solo driver can average 2500-3200/wk legally so you are paying one of them drivers to entertain the other.
You could lease the trucks to a big company, hire two of the COMPANIES drivers to drive your truck and pay them a few cents more than the company was paying them. Now you don't have to rent a trailer etc.
If they making more than the company was paying they will be happy.
Need help making it work

Seems to me your No.1 problem is the people you are leased to. I was leased to one of the name brand carriers and their Occ/Acc ins. was $140/month and i know they were makeing money at that. Landstar is big in Detroit as are many others. Start a thread about where to move your trucks to. Plus i agree with numerous others, drivers pay should be around 26%. The carrier you are leased to is taking advantage of you.

Oc83 makes a good point and suggestion. Youll certainly have a higher profit if you lease onto a different company, and asking an already hired company driver to drive for you will make YOU happy and paying them a few cents more with absolutly make them happy.

put those trucks on with a big carrier like schneider or one of the big reefer outfits.Take your money per mile no trailer rent no cargo insurance and see if less does not add up to more. I am sure someone will scoff at me but you can make the same money you are now and not have to pay 10 percent or cargo insurance Plus you can take advantage of some serious fuel discounts Maybe later sell two of the trucks off and just run one yourself. I had three at one time what a disaster that was.I can not even think a guy like you or me could find two REAL TRUCK DRIVERS either. These are just my thoughts I hope it works out for you.

That's my thoughts exactly ... Lease on to a large carrier and cut some of the fat and the bottom line will increase in his case at least 7-10% if not more -
It is not a matter of large or small. It is about honest and fair. A smaller carrier can do it cheaper than large carriers. I will be up to 20 trucks with three people in the office and my drivers make significantly more than the better paying large carriers.
Difference in what he has vs us is that down to our core we are all about making the O/O successful and happy. When is the last time you heard a diver tell you how much fun they are having? I hear that almost daily.
He has a company that is taking advantage of him. Period. -
US not only that but by be leased to a large company if something bad happens (Accident with a law suit) the large carrier can afford a much better lawyer or team of lawyers that One man can. Those big outfits are not all crooks.Years ago when schneider was only paying 80 cents a mile their leased trucks were grossing 145 grand a year which was way more than almost anyone else. National carriers was the same now this was 15 years ago or more but think about it.When big company sends company truck out they have no way of controling cost Blown engine transmission you get my drift. By sending a leased truck out none of that matters to them because it only costs them X per mile. so leased trucks are an asset to mr large company. Also no work comp holiday vacation pay ect, in other words mr large carrier can lock their cost in by using mr owner operator.

Big bad bill you are right on but he is in dire straits it sounds like to me. The large carrier may not cause him to have fun but they could help him salvage his operation, then he could come over to you after he gets on more solid ground and possibly excell. I my self may be heading your way toward thanks giving if you will have me

Hey guys, Thank you for all the feed back, and option you guys have gave me. It seems that good people are on this forum.
As I said the guy (pavel94) who told me about this site, saw my post and after I got home me and him talked about it. it seems he thinks I am not in a very good position to have drivers. so we talked about getting my own authority and he can rent me two trailer that he has extra for about $90 a week, so I can get started somewhere.
My son can dispatch us and I can put a truck with him so some faster money can be coming in. I have that team that is my problem. pavel says its kinda hard for his dispach to keep teams busy, the max they can get is around 4700 miles a week which seems kinda good for me. As for the other two trucks I will be driving one and have a single in the other. pavel told me to call OOIDA for help if needed. Other then that Im going to my state to open the company then Im gonna jump in to get everything really. Thanks again looking forward for more feedback. Have a great night and drive safe. -
