nothing yet, still waiting on the oil sample i just sent out to come back. I still have a feeling that it is a fuel problem but time will tell. I may end up just doing the motor before it pops on me and be done with it

I am having the same exact problems with my MBN engine now. I have a 2004 379 Peterbilt with a CAT MBN in it. I wanted to know if you ever found the problem and fix, or did you just have to replace the engine?

If you don't have the $$$ for a rebuild, and the mods, I would rebuild, and flash to 6NZ, do the rest as $$$$ permits. When you rebuild, take a good look at the cam, and followers, some were prone to flaking. IIRC, the MBN cam and injectors work alright with a 6NZ flash- but I think the cam is only good for about 525hp.
Hopefully one of the "gurus" will correct me if I'm giving out the wrong info, I pretty much did my changes at one time but I think several guys have done a MBN to 6NZ flash without changing iron parts.
Good Luck.... Oh, do a search on MBN here; TONS of info is available-you'll prolly see my user name alots! I got lots of good advise from the guys :biggrin_25514:here; they are very knowledgeable, helpful, and their advise is priced right!

Doesn't matter the info is still good and might help someone. My MBN has the original cam, pistons and injectors. The same turbo PDI sells as a stage 1, fuel temp wire, 6NZ 2300 rpm brakesaver flash 550/1850. It was a factory 525 motor, I cut it back to MBN 475 flash and it dyno'd 421 to the wheels. Haney 6NZ'd it and we guestimated500 to the wheels. And you can sure tell the difference. This is the quickest cheapest fix for an MBN. Lowers temps and ups mpgs. @ 1,089,000 miles since the fix at 780k and still running like a champ. Never overhauled, New head at 750k,new rods/mains @ 984 k very minimal oil consumption on 12k intervals. I enjoy this motor.

i have seen this before in jamaica and it was an ecm problem, at times the engine sounds like a b model breaking bottles then it clears, cuts out on a hill, black smoke then its ok, last issue was a knocking in the engine, stripped it down no problems, fit it up and the knocking ws still there, changed the ecm and all was well.
