Many would agree that having an APU would be the deciding factor in hiring on with a company. I personally will not hire on with a company that has no APU.
Fuel prices and idling.

I drive local so my argument is mute but my company does use ArcticFox heaters to keep engines, fuel and hydraulic fluid warm....nearly to full temp. I imagine they don't use much less fuel than an APU but it one of the things an APU would do.
-
Yes, I would definitely agree with that.

I idle all the time. I have bad allergese and even your cigs or cigar next truck over get to me. also I now have COPD, used to smoke alot, smoke inhalation in the service, agent orange, lol, basically my lungs are going to be toast soon. SO , I idle the truck to sleep and breath. A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP= SAFE DRIVING & GOOD HEALTH.
before all you young'uns start in saying I should quit driving if its so bad. driving a truck doesn't have to be like camping out in a pup tent, not today, not even when I started 28 yrs ago. If I owned it I'd have an APU, I don't.
Even your APU sends out exhaust fumes I can't breath.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I know it'll still put out the fumes, but i saw in a thread some guys had great ideas of connecting the apu exhaust to the tractor exhaust. that way it doesn't dump out right beside the truck. Seemed pretty cool. Id definitely do that or run the exhaust to the back of the frame behind the drives if i could. -
There are reasons some drivers idle all the time:
Comfort, running AC or heat.
Safety, keeping windows up and doors locked.
Keep out noise.
Keep out bugs, mosquitos.
Power electronic devices.corneileous and Motownfire Thank this. -
you can run the APU exhaust into the stack of the truck due to the negative air pressure it wont exhaust out and the APU wont run properly.
i know a guy that had a stack made for is APU and it runs beside the truck stack and gets the fumes up and awayDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I wondered this myself...
can or cannot...your explanation is aiming for the cannot...just want to clairfy, thanksDrtyDiesel and NWMAXI Thank this. -

I looked at one today that had it it beside the stack. it was clean and quiet too!
DrtyDiesel and NWMAXI Thank this.
