Go to a toy store and get a toy semi. Then practice backing it and watch what happens.

Yes this really can help. When I was going through school, a guy from a previous class could not back. They had the toy trucks. The day before his last shot at passing, he sat at a table with a truck. Used small objects to setup the offside and parallel parking. He worked with that toy truck for a couple of hours at least. The next day he took and passed his skills test , zero points on backing!!!

Sounds like your school failed you as well allowing you to test without the minimal proficiency needed...

First of all, I'm not trying to discourage you. Having said that, I graduated from trucking school 3 weeks ago and scored 100% on backing (100' straight line back and 45 degree alley dock). I'm 1 week into training OTR and school doesn't serve justice to the real world. We trained on 48' trailers in school. Staying inside the cones at school was easy. Now that a trailer is on either or both sides, it's a lot more intimidating. I know I'm a rookie, but I also know setup is very important in backing.

Good luck john b and don't give up!
