I've changed an alternator out in the middle of nowhere faster than that....and that included hitching a ride to town to buy the new one after I had the old one off.
What did they do...remove, rebuild, reinstall?![]()

There's your problem, you actually trusted a Mechanic's sense of time.
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
I was at kw in joplin, mo. They said they didn't have one in stock and had to have it delivered from the kw in van burn, ar. I think that's about a 2 1/2 hr drive, so after it got there and they finished the other trucks they bumped in front of me I was all set!
-
pete and kw are both built by paccar, so that may not be the problem, perhaps they didnt build the alternator.
-
I live right near a paccar testing facility and they put those trucks through their paces. i've gone on 2 ride alongs out there and it's pretty cool
halfburn Thanks this. -
From everything else I've seen with this truck its built with high quality. Id b interested to here if any of the others have issues. The tranny sucked at first but now that im used to it its not too bad. The cummins has a higher powerband than the cat, and when it gets wound up it pulls pretty well. Should b a 13 speed no doubt though

Let you know in a week or so.
-
perhaps they didnt build the alternator.
Ya Think ! Last Alternator I bought for a KW ( KW dealer ) was a CHAMPION and made in MEXICO
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
i knew that flatbed, i was being a little facetious as AT is a bit biased toward peterbuilt since he drives one now.
crap happens to any truck new or old. it matters not the brand. -
its not that i drive a pete, i just dont like KW's they're ugly. I like straight lines not weird angled lines and oddly shaped windows. I also dont care for their new plastic dash with the sunkin gauges either. Or their excessive use of plastic whether it be to halfarse cover the fuel tanks or for the dash, or cheap mirrors and plastic bumpers.
and i drive a Peterbilt but thanks for assumeing my reasons for not likeing KW's
