Ok Guys i need some info please. I`m going to retire from my job next month after 30yrs in the snack food business. i`m 49yrs. old and looking at fuel hauling as my next career. i have no CDL and i know i will have to attend a driving school in order to get my CDL,Haz, etc. Is there any gas co`s that will train me or will i need to go otr for a few years? Would like to haul for Pilot or Love`s.

Most fuel companies will hire you after two years of tractor-trailer experience. They will train you once you're qualified. That's exactly what I'm getting my experience for.

I haul for Gemini which is Love's. I was fresh out of school and went OTR for a little shy of a month before realizing that it wasn't for me. I then heard about Gemini hiring in my area and I applied. Now here I am hauling fuel. Most if not all of the fuel hauling companies "require" two years experience, give or take, but that doesn't mean you can't get on. It depends on the hiring manager and how bad they need someone.

My pleasure. Yes you are required to work on holidays and weekends. You do get paid for six holidays a year and if the holiday happens to fall on one of your days off then all the better. lol Shifts are 12 hours and usually five days a week with two days off in a row. Its rare that I work a full 12 hour shift. Run your loads for the shift and head home. If you are done two or three hours early then that's fine as well. Time management and routine are key. If you get a good routine down and manage your time wisely, then you will usually be off before 12 hours. Hope the info helps.

Yes Gemini, Love's, does haul fuel 24hrs a day. The shifts are 12 hours and you slip seat with another driver. My shift is 3-3. Rarely does it take me a full 12 hours to run my assigned loads. Other locations may have different shift times to better service that area. Some locations like Salt Lake City have sleeper trucks and some of those guys are out 4 or 5 days then home on days off. Just depends on the area. Most are day cab trucks like here. I usually work 9-10 hours a shift. Two days off consecutively per week.

I hauled fuel for approx 6 years. It is an easy job. Just take your time to be safe. You can make great money. I worked from 3am till 1230pm and then the rest of the day was free. I made approx 950 a week. Woked for a great little co. (He sold the co. before his wife got it in the divorce)

When you get trained, just pay attention. Yes you will have to start at most likely on nite shift, but that is not too bad. (Less Traffic)

Good luck and let us know how you make out!
