Hi bobbyt. The Trican website has sent postings, 16 to which I have applied, and I will apply to another 6. If I pack my car and head to the patch tonight, which Trican terminal would You send me to apply in person? I have secured lodging in Calgary.

WOW loaded question... i haven't done any work with medicine hat, but they have alot of entry level positions. worked with brooks crews, good bunch of guys. calgary is more of our head office/ technical side so not to many field positions that i know of. red deer has everything and it's our training base. usually has lots of openings. you could pop in and talk to each of them and see what they say. sorry can't pinpoint a specific place.

WOW back at You, bobbyt, quite helpful. Packed my car, first stop was Redcliff. Friendly, but non-committal. Warmer Receptionist in Brooks, said they were filled with workers, but try Red Deer. Just because I like the Town itself, I visited Drumheller, where Sue was quite willing to talk. Todd was giving a tour at the moment, but would call back. Off to Red Deer, where Christina was pleased to hear of my Clear Class 1, and paged Kirby, but couldn't find him. She gave me an application to fill-out off-site. This was Thursday @ 16:50. At 16:55, Todd called and thanked me for stopping by. I may just call ahead next time, and perhaps ask for a tour of the Base.

After spending the night in Calgary with my Brother, I returned to Red Deer, where Christina ushered me right in, as Kirby was looking for me. A good chat, whereby we spoke of my days performing Oil/Filter/Lube on Class 8 Tractors & Gravel Trailers, plus other wrench-spinning. While I'm willing to be based anywhere to start, I would prefer Brandon. Calgary or Drumheller. Kirby said that a position will likely become available after break-up. With confidence, I look forward to May.

Sure glad I got off my duff. I got their attention the old-fashioned way, show up in person. That line from the web-site that states: only those considered for an interview will be contacted? I think it may be placed there to see if an Applicant takes the initiative, and gets off their duff.

Wow that's great, sorry I forgot about the drum heller base but glad you had a good experience with red deer. I didn't get a tour of the base when I was there there's all kinds of divisions in red deer So you can choose what you want to do if you don't hear from them, keep hounding them. Keep me informed

rainyday if you want to work out of Calgary. look up Canadian Nitrogen Services. The shop is in Crossfield, 20 minutes north. smallish outfit, decent money, decent boss, lots of opportunity to advance. 1-877-284-0404 Jacques or Doug

    Hi guys,

I am new to the forum but have been reading all of these posts about what is going on in the patch - very informative - thanks!

I'm from Vancouver Island and don't have much knowledge myself of the patch but am looking to relocate work in the near future and seriously considering heading up there. I've been 12 years class 1 driving and some equipment experience as well. I will be applying to some of the companies that you guys have already mentioned. From what I understand from this thread that in person is the way to go - am I best due to the time of year now to turn up there with resume in hand May timeframe? All advice appreciated.

Thanks! Keep the rubber side down.

WCH april to may is the absolutely worst time to go out job hunting. Everyone is racking up trailers in the yard and washing trucks until the spring rains dry up and the back roads become passable again. Most companies here in sask have either got half the drivers on vacation right now or have gone to a 10-5 shift, 10 days off 5 days on.

best time to apply is in person in the june to sep months. Allot of the drivers who had time off in spring have moved on, or decided to work for another company and all the managers are looking at a yard full of trucks with no drivers to fill them yet.

Stringless yoyo, oilpatch is never a year round deal. Sorry wrong industry. Plus your french. nobody would like you anyway. heh, just kidding. they all like french fries I am sure you would catch on too.
