Haven't heard much about them in years, but at one time, maybe 12+ years ago, they had a reputation as one of the cheapest places to work. They hauled anything on a flatbed as long as they could quote a low enough price to haul it. Things may have changed since then, but that was their rep in times past.

My $.02, you may not be able to work for them; last time I spoke to a recruiter, they said they were mainly hiring people from the south, because a lot of their freight comes from/ goes to there, and if you live as far north as I do (Detroit) they can't guarantee any sort of regular hometime, so they don't bother hiring.
-
The story they told me:
Well these days they are claiming great freight lanes in the Midwest and Southeast, 37 cents to start (Exp) and around 15 people in their classes. Take home truck with about 2200-2500 miles a week. 3 out of 4 weekends at home. Clients like Alcoa and US Steel.
I am in Chicago with a recent 6 months at Schneider Bulk and a CDL for ten years and they would take me in,
They cover the hotel
3 day orientation
5 day load securement
Road and drug test then get my own truck and a first run that would try to get you home from Memphis TN.
Frieghtshaker with a straight 10 speed, low roof only one bunk.
Every answer came up right-on except They would not let me tie them down on detention, layover and breakdown pay. There is the red flag.
What do you guys think, smaller fleet and not be just a number with Builder's Transport Corporation LLC out of Memphis Tn or go to one of the "big" 5 flatbed fleets?
I am looking to get my one year recent OTR under my belt and stay longer if the conditions are doable.

Surely this isn't the same BT that was based in Lugoff, South Carolina back in the day. Remember the green and yellow BT trucks that used to ply the highways back in the 90s? Their rigs were mainly International COEs, but they also had a few Freightliner Classics sprinkled in their fleet. I know when I last drove in 2002, I'd see an occasional FL Classic in the old BT color scheme. I imagine there are a few still out there.
Anyway, considering I don't know for sure what became of BT--Lugoff, I'll guess this Builder's isn't the same outfit. -
Two different companies Tip. The Builders transport that you are thinking of was bought out by Schneider National back around 2000 or maybe a little earlier. The company he is asking about runs white freightliners mainly with some leased on O/O and they pull only flats.
-
Yes, the Builder's Transport Corporation out of Memphis Tn runs Freightshaker's that are white with blue stripe and lettering.
The state terminals in Memphis Tn, Birmingham, Pittsburgh, Louisville and Little Rock. They have about 400 trucks and have a O/O side.
Any info good or bad would help. Do you know of any flatbed company in the Chicago that would take me in with 6 months OTR experience? -
Talk to Davis Transport outta Missoula, MT .... they run flats .... I go for orientation there on the 15th .... they have a terminal in Iowa also .... talk to Jeanette in recruiting
They are working with me on training .... havent been in a class A in a few years .... been running Class B for the last 5 years .... but by all accounts from others they are a good company
Talk to Broncrider .... he is an O/O for them and has good things to say about them also
-
I am looking at the Davis Transport out of IA now. Thanx
