I was a trainer before with Werner only because its the only way to make money with that company. I had fun doing it so now I was curious. Its been a while since I was a trainer, and I was thinking of getting back OTR. Can anyone recommend a good company to become a trainer for?

You've been trucking for three years? And someone who has 10 years experience with a 3 year driving gap will have to climb up into your truck and let you train them? No offense, but no thanks....

Why don't you just get at least a couple more years under your belt, bad winters, and the plethora of experience that accumulating miles will afford you...

Otherwise, your good intention of training is lost in your inexperience. You could show someone how to use an e-log. You could give clues to the ins and outs of a particular company. But finishing training? I'm just saying it's not a good idea and just because certain companies use 6 month experience to train doesn't mean it's good for the industry, or YOU.

Go run the roads for awhile, and then offer your EXPERIENCE. Yours (and once again, offense) is limited.
    Thanks and truck safe.

No offense, but you were a "trainer" with Werner, a company that lets a driver with 6 months experience, "train". I think CRST does the same. Anyway, you're limited with companies.

Why on earth would you want to be a trainer?!

If you have 3 years experience and have kept your record clean your now getting to a point that some of the better to work for companies are willing to take a look at you, instead you want to go be a trainer at some BFI?

Werner recruiter that presented to my class a couple weeks ago was really stressing the "and you can be a trainer in as little as 6 months too" to us. Wasn't too impressed w/that...

Yeah. I'm with Werner now and I wouldn't dare think about training of teaming. Both means that your life is in the hands of somebody else. Money isn't worth your life. Just keep your license clean and get your experience to be accepted at a higher paying company.

I would never train anyone as their is too much liability involved. You can have a good student on your truck, but if they get into a accident 2 weeks after you release them, guess what? The company is going to point the finger at you.

And the last thing we need is more trainers that just want a student for a log book.

first off let me say, if you do not have patients you can not make a good trainer. I started training the end of my fourth year. i had seen four of each season by then and have been from one end of the country at least 6times north to south and east to west in every kind of weather. that did not prepare me for being responsible for another life that was in my care. Nor did it prepare for trying to sleep behind someone whom had less experience than myself. i suggest you find a company like mine that does not force the trainer to team after the first week. my trainees are on my truck for eight weeks and in that time i make the assessment on when to go and try teams. but even my company will not allow you train till you have at least 5years experience. you then must have been clean on all d.o.t and local laws pertaining to your cdl. this includes personal use as well. I wish you luck and if you gain the experience needed give jbs carriers a look see. just to let you know i have been a mentor now for 12years and the past two with jbs carriers.

I feel there are too many trainers out there for the $ and not to truly prepare a new student/apprentice/trainee..... I believe that requires a special breed of driver to be a successful and respected trainer...............prayerfully you are out there to mold us rookies.
