Hello All,
Thanks to everyone who has answered questions and offered advice concerning Millis. I have even spoken to Alice a couple of times today, very nice! I have been hesitant about going forward as I went to a cdl school here in Ohio last summer and I had a bad experience. I had a hard time with the double clutching. I really aggravated my instructor. So much that he told main instructor that if I couldn't calm down I would not make it. Well, I ended up getting a class B. Did I give up to easy? Yes. Do I regret it? Yes!! I really WANT to drive a truck. Every time a big rig goes by me down the interstate I think how cool that is. I am concerned that if I cough up $2000.00 for school again and not make it, and end up not having a job, what I will do. I just wanted to get that off my chest in a forum where poeple may understand where I am coming from. Thanks again to EVERYONE!!!

Well technically you dont have to cough up $2000 if you stay with the company for a year. I say go for it.

From what i've gathered from previous posts, the instructors at Millis, will work with you 100%...as long as they can see that you are really trying...on any problems that may occur. Just relax and you will be fine.

If you really want to do it, just do it. You can't drive a truck with out the CDL. You can't get the CDL without the training. If this is what you really want to do. Apply with the company. Figure out a way to practice double cluthing prior to going to driving school or just be prepared to practice it at school in front of an instructor. Instructors are just people. They can't kill you for not getting it at their desired speed. If you want to do it, just do it. Life is a challenge and you've made it this far. I say go ahead and jump in the deep end and trust yourself.

There are excellent opportunities for Class B straight truck drivers. They will hire graduates from a preapproved CDL school. It's recommended to team with an experienced driver to start but you will get full pay right away - no $300 a week for 4 - 6 weeks nonsense .
Old MP Thanks this. -
The key is to just relax and not think about it too hard. It was hard for me the first time I tried it and I thought "crap this is hard and confusing". It seemed the harder I tried the worse it got. So I took the following weekend to reflect on what I was doing wrong, let things absorb over the weekend and came back that Monday and grabbed the bull by the horns.
Just relax and don't over think the whole thing and you will be fine. Now I am fighting this 90degree alley dock into a space with about a foot and a half to spare on both sides of the truck. It is kicking my arse but I will get it. I know how you feel. -
Forgot to add expedite straight trucks are automatics. Much easier to find parking spots also . Some state parks and campgrounds accept them. 75% availability is the standard. Run 3 or 4 weeks and take a week off.

Jmorgn,
I think the instructors at Millis are a cut above. I went to the Trenton school, and I have heard praise from students about all the schools. Bill Smith at Trenton is simply unbelievable. He was born to teach. If you want it this man will give it to you. He lives for big trucks.
I have no experience with CDL schools except that I visited one during my search for the right place. I really believe that you could not make a better choice than Millis Trenton.
