Started CDL school last weekend. Just got the pre-hire back from Roehl (also SNI and Werner). Won't finish the school until mid May so I have time to research and take your opinions. I also am seriously considering going flatbed. Like the looks of Maverick and TMC.

Stay away from Werner, if you want to make no money! And be lied too.

I started back in August and have found Roehl to be the best starter company. I have talked to other drivers and haven't really found other drivers with different companies that are as satisfied. That being said I run van so cannot speak for the flatbed division or companies that run flatbed. If you like being home I can say this 11/3 is the best your going to get OTR from any company. The starting pay for Van is .30cpm (If I had to guess flatbed is probably .32cpm) just a comparison Werner Starts out around .25cpm and Swift .26cpm (Both Van). Crete Carrier is the only company that I have found that pays new drivers more. They do have a flatbed division to (think its called Hunt). I am interested in Crete myself but undecided about if I will go there as I'm only wanting to do this OTR slavery stuff for 2 years. But if you want a good company that will treat you with respect and give you miles so long as you do your job and don't cause problems then Roehl is a good fit. Plus if you like getting home as much as possible (like me) then Roehl is about the best at that. As long as you give them plenty of notice as to when you need to be home they will get you there 1 day +/- if not that day. If you got any other questions just ask away. I will try to answer anything I can and if I can't I'm sure someone else on here can and will. Good Luck on your endeavors!

TMC sounds like a pretty good company to run flatbed with....that's all they run.
Their starting pay is .35 cents per mile. It looks like they have nice equipment too. The downside for me is, they don't allow pets.

I noticed that you're a student at HMTT. If you can, try to attend their recruiting seminars. I know Schneider National will have recruiters there tomorrow (3/29/12)
Not sure when TMC will be there again, but I think they have the same recruiters that come out once a month. Check the HMTT recruiting schedule to find out.

You should also know that I'm not actually a trucker yet, in fact, I won't even be a student until 4/09/12 so you may not want to listen to me..lol.
But I've been researching the hell out of these companies for a couple months now....and to my knowledge, TMC pays the best...and has the best equipment.
