Been lurking on this forum for awhile and enjoying reading all your posts and learning a little bit. - I'm 54, a student - 5 more weeks to go. Was told by a former student that came to our class today that Prime is a great company to work for - he couldn't say enough good things about it. FB sounds like something I'd like to do, BUT, I'm female! I'm in pretty good shape and very strong. Do you think a female could do FB?
-
Yeah why not, your only as week as your mind is right? Congrats on school, and welcome to the Prime threads. Don't hesitate to ask any question, there are plenty of people around here that are more then willing to help you out.

I believe i a female can do it actually meet a female fber at prime on the yard

Ive seen a few female FBers. Not all bout muscle, its about being smart. Doing what needs to be done to ensure the safety of the load.

Thank you for the kind replies! Safety is what it's all about. I taught Traffic Violator's School for a couple of years. Used to refer to the CDL manual a lot to teach folk how to be safer drivers and especially be more patient and understanding when it came to sharing the road, and what the laws on the books are really for (safety, duh!) I'm sure Karma will be good to me! I'm looking forward to learning all I can to make this a great career. Thanks again.

The loads can be very difficult sometimes. Top heavy, unusual shape, heavy... All the above lol Also, make sure you check the whole load. Some shippers like to hide little presents in the middle. Stuff that will bounce out if not secured. Just delivered a steel building. Piece hanging off the back had nothing sitting on it. Only thing holding it from bouncing off was the 3 straps I put on. If you THINK it might move, ADD securement to it.

I have a question, and apologize in advance because I know nothing about this right now! Does the driver at least supervise the loading? Do you have any say in how the load goes on? You'd have to get them to load it correctly, as far as being balanced and not having parts that go flying off. Is that correct or not? Guess I'm worrying already!

Depends on where it is... Ive only had 2 loads in almost 2 months that were live loaded. Meaning I was there while it was loaded. Every other load was a drop n hook. It was loaded long before I got there. Most places know what theyre doing. Load I got now has a good bit of weight on the drives, which is good. Some loads are loaded the way they are simply cause thats the only way to get it all on. If its a safety issue, Ill get it redone. Ive done it before. Most of the time I just secure it the way it sits.
Roadrunnergal Thanks this.
