Do you think that it is okay to give 2 hours of your time for free to the company? Do you really think that is fair? I don't!

Getting a little "chippy" in here.

As I said before, what is "good" for me might not be for you. Your benchmark is different from mine. You may want a certain type of equipment, a particular benefit (health, 401K, profit sharing, union?), you may want a certain amount of days per month home.
They key point is that if you're a qualified driver with a good driving record, there is NO reason to settle for a bulls**t job. -
I rarely ever get detained and here is why: I never bother with the paperwork for detension. The company gets more than they are paying you for it you can be sure and they dont get anything if you dont get times signed for. If they want to get paid thier end for detension they better send a different driver to that ########, because its not worth my time.

...maybe YOU don't get anything.

Took me 3 hours to unload the other day. Got paid a whopping $15 for the third hour. so, $15 total pay, for 3 hours total detention is $5 an hour.
They should be given 2 hours to unload you, but if they go over that 2 hours, the driver should be paid for the entire time, not just the time over the first 2 hours.
The sick part is that your company is charging the customer $75 an hour, and only giving you $15 of it. That in itself should be a crime.scottied67 Thanks this. -
On the topic of Detention pay I worked for a broker in the past and as the carrier rep I had to really argue with managers to get them to ok detention pay. It was like they just didn't understand that drivers were missing out on other loads because of the delays and we're talking 5-8 hour delays sometimes with layover for days! I just didn't get it. If you work for a broker make sure to ask them up front about their layover and detention policies so you don't get shafted.

Do you feel that you should get the whole $75/hr? Are you a company driver?
Most detention policies with shippers/consignees are 2 hours to load/unload. Detention starts after that. This seems to be the 'norm' in the industry. Knowing this, it's part of the truck driving job.
Yes I agree any driver should be paid when the detention time starts. But knowing up front that this time allotment is given to load/unload, why would you consider your $15 detention pay example for a 3 hours time frame? -
And this is why trucking will never improve....what I see as crap, the next driver see's as the best job he has ever had.....the companies know this therefore they make the pay after 2 hours and numerous hoops you have jump through to get it, if the first guy will not go for it the second or third guy will and be happy about it.scottied67 Thanks this.

I disagree. I think that the driver should be compensated for all of their on duty time. Who in their right mind wants to work for free? You can count me out on that one! Why drivers find that acceptable, I'll never know. And for those that say "it's always been that way", it's nobody's fault but their own.scottied67 Thanks this.
