If the load board isn't owned by a carrier, they are worth what you pay for them. If you can't afford $35 to try INternet Truckstop out for a month, I don't even know what to say. They were the best that I found from 2003-09. Load boards like that are a third party who need to make money too. One load a month more than pays for it.

Thanks for the input fortycal, I think I mentioned here that if this FreightConnections platform doesn't work out like I want/expect it to I would go to Internet Truckstop, or maybe a different one. Why do you recommend Internet Truckstop specifically? You are not the first to tell me that they are probably the best to use.
I definitely don't have a problem with paying for the subscription service fee, I just don't want to start paying for that yet, while I don't know exactly when FC will be available for use. You're absolutely right about only one load a month already paying for it though... if the sites work as they are advertised. -
Because they are the biggest player for the o/o out there. They have the most brokers posting and were the easiest to use (circa 2009). I started out with Getloaded, IT and TruckersEdge (DAT). I stayed with IT and DAT till I gave up my authority. These fly by night loadboards never pan out to keep your truck running. Most shippers use brokers for their overflow or non-contracted freight.
-
I see. Good to hear that IT is O/O-geared. I might need to use both then. FreightConnections will need some time to get users to join before it has a chance of really helping. It could definitely have its place though, especially being free right off the bat.
How do you feel about the rates on IT? Are there big markups or anything hidden? Obviously the rates will vary a ton, but overall if you could just ballpark it relative to others that would be great. -
IT is just a forum. Brokers set the rates and 97% you have to call to be them. It sounds like you have no clue and are just a shill for this FC site.
-
Of course I have no clue, hence this thread. I'm trying to get advice on these things. I have never used any load boards in the past.
-
If that's the case forget about this FC site or whatever. Hundreds of online loadboards have come and gone over the last decade. Going straight to the shippers is OK in theory, but there is a reason they use brokers in the first place. It's a lot less work. They're very optimistic if they fell they're going to change this industry in a meaningful way. In the mean time, go get some contract freight and work the loadboards in between. That's how you make money out here, plain and simple. Load boards, in general, are full of the crap no one wants. Even on the Landstar load board for leased trucks, those loads are from agents who don't have a known to them driver in the area. The Landstar broker board is freight that leased trucks didn't want. See how that works. I haven't pulled a load off the LS board in a month, and I'm doing very well.

Majority of the BIG carriers that have LOGISTICS divisions also have load boards. And surprisingly pay fairly decent rates.

fortycal- Thanks for the honest feedback. I'll keep that in mind.
FLATBED- That is surprising, I would have guessed the opposite.
